MSC announces a second ship in Cuba

MSC Armonia made her maiden call to Havana this week so will join MSC Opera to offer sailings in the region for the Winter 2016/2017 season.

Both ships have undergone recent refurbishment ( Opera in late 2014 and Armonia in 2015 ) as part of the ‘Renaissance Program’ which saw a billion Euro fleet enhancement.

MSC were the first cruise line to offer sailings from Cuba in 2015 and have committed themselves to the destination ever since. Placing a second ship in the region means year round sailings from Cuba which is sure to be a popular call with guests of all nationalities.

MSC Armonia will offer 7 and 14 nights sailings up until March 2017 with MSC Opera staying based out of Havana year round.

If you are looking for that unique itinerary for some Winter/Summer sun, especially those that have sailed the Caribbean/Mexican Riviera a few times, and are looking for new ports of call to experience then this could just be the cruise you have been searching for!

Havana is perfect for sightseeing and immersing yourself in their heritage and culture, see here for further details,  but the addition of one of the lesser known Cuban Islands, Isla De La Juventud, makes for an interesting twist.

There is relatively little known on the pre Columbian history of this island, which is the second largest of the Cuban Islands ( see the map above for the position of the island ) however it became known to Europeans in 1494.

FUN FACT: The island of Isla De La Juventud has had its fair share of pirate activity in the past and accounts from the area were drawn on in the books Treasure Island and Peter Pan!

If you would like to explore the island for yourself it is featured on one of the MSC Armonia cruise itineraries operating until April 2017, an overview of the itinerary featuring this port is below;

Day 1 – Board in Havana, overnight on the ship.

Day 2 – Havana

Day 3 – Belize City – Belize

Day 4 – Isla De Roatan – Honduras

Day 5 – Playa Del Carmen – Mexico

Day 6 – Isla De La Juventud – Cuba

Day 7 – Arrive Havana and disembark
