Carnival Vista arrived into Miami earlier this week, after her inaugural season around the Mediterranean

I myself, experienced Carnival Vista back in August of this year, on an eight night sailing around the Mediterranean, and I experienced the fantastic facilities this ship has to offer, from the SkyRide, to a burger in Guy’s Burger Joint, my Carnival Vista experience was a truly memorable one…

The Port of Miami officially welcomed Carnival Vista earlier this week, where she will begin her busy cruising schedule of 6 and 8 cruise holidays around the Caribbean. She was welcomed with open arms from her Captain, Stefano Battinelli and the ports Assistant Director, Fred Wong. The occasion was marked with a Maritime plaque, prior to the Vista’s first scheduled departure from Miami.

The president of Carnival Cruises, Christine Duffy expressed her delight with this statement issued earlier this week

“Miami has been our home since our company’s inception in 1972 and homeporting the new Carnival Vista here not only provides consumers with a convenient homeport with renovated facilities and numerous operational enhancements but speaks volumes about our confidence in growing this important market,”

Miami-Dade Mayor,  Carlos A. Gimenez has also thanked Carnival Cruise Lines by stating his delight of Vista’s arrival

“We are thankful for Carnival Cruise Line’s continued growth at PortMiami,” said Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “The arrival of new and innovative cruise ships such as Carnival Vista helps solidify our place as a global hub for travel and tourism, vital to the continual growth and development of our community.”

The Carnival Vista is Carnival’s new addition to the fleet, and also the largest. She boasts a wide variety of eateries, including formal and casual options, with times to suit every guest on board.

Entertainment is varied on board, including live shows, comedy acts, live singers and artists, personally my favourite was to watch a movie under the stars, whilst soaking in the warm August Mediterranean air in the evenings, with popcorn to give that truly cinematic experience.

carn

My children, aged 8 and 5 utilised the children’s on board clubs and facilities, which offered interactive games, group activities and gave my children fantastic memories, that they often recall.

This is an exciting time for Vista, and I personally, would like to wish her every success for her bright future.

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines have announced a multi million pound refit for Black Watch entailing a full refurbishment of the ship, up to date technology added to cabins, and fresh décor added throughout the ship

Black Watch

This announcement follows the recent fire which broke out on board the ship in July this year, which caused widespread damage and resulted in the cruise coming to an abrupt end and guests flown home. The ship was taken out of service to Spain to undergo repairs

Black Watch has a current guest capacity of 804, and she is set to sail from Tilbury on 18th November over to a dry dock in Hamburg, Germany on 20th November, where she will undergo 26 days of refit, including various engineering tasks

Forty Four year old Black Watch will then debut her refit and re enter service on 15th December from her makeover and will be sailing guests for a Christmas Markets cruise, departing from Tilbury

Fred Olsen have also announced various refit and refurbishment programs are to be continued throughout the fleet in coming years

The extensive refurbishment of Black Watch include:

  • A full refurbishment of all in cabin bathrooms
  • All cabins to include, new and interactive TV systems, with the introduction of mini bars in all cabins
  • The current Braemar Courtyard will be transformed into a speciality dining area, named The Black Watch Room. Seating will be available for 46 diners, and will include specialities such as cooked to order steaks
  • Extensive refurbishment will take place in the current main dining room, The Glentanar, which seats 340 diners. Plans include a fresh new look, with new and updated carpets, curtains and furniture
  • A new and updated addition will include, Brigadoon, the current The Braemar Café. This will transformed into a new and fresh 54 seat restaurant, which will show brand new and fresh décor, with a new intimate way to dine for guests. Brigadoon will continue to serve both British and International dishes
  • The on board bars and pubs are included in the refurbishment. The current Observatory Lounge will include a refresh to all of the fittings and décor, and the current Lido Lounge will feature new and fresh furniture, carpets as well as the new added feature of a full width sliding door
  • A whole new cinematic 3D experience will be introduced to the current Marina Cinema

Exciting times ahead for Black Watch, a ship which is engraved within the Fred Olsen fleet and deserves to be brought up to date and continue to be probably the most popular Fred Olsen ship. I, for one, can not wait to see how she emerges post refit!

What’s new in the Cruise industry?

Carnival Cruise Lines are dominating the Cruise headlines at the moment and here’s why…

Carnival have named their new ship HORIZON. She’s currently being built in Italy and will launch in early 2018. Horizon’s home port & itineraries are yet to be announced, however I have my fingers crossed for Mediterranean sailings. Having sailed on Carnival Vista in June this year (so much fun), Horizon will have many of Vista’s features and more!

carnival-horizon-name-announcement

Carnival Hub

Over the next few months Carnival Cruise Line will roll out their hub app on more ships. All ships in the fleet will have the app by 2017

I used the app onboard Vista and found it really useful. From ship maps (we all lose our bearings) to what’s happening day by day. My favorite bit – you get to save events and it comes up with a reminder for you just before the event! I found this really good as it’s so easy to forget the time whilst having fun. Download the hub app before you go and it gives you a countdown tracker to your cruise, then once onboard open up the app to view and plan your daily activities and events

funhub-app

Olympic Games:

The Norwegian Getaway has been charted as a floating hotel in Rio de Janeiro, during the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. So from 4th August to 22 August 2016 she will be berthed at Rio’s Pier Maua, entertaining corporate sponsors and the official Olympics committees!

Updated smoking ban:

To coincide with other luxury cruise lines, Seabourn have brought it’s smoking policy upto date. Smoking will no longer be allowed on balconies or the interior of the ship. This takes effect from November/December 2016
