Hello All! I’m Laura, but you can call me Miss B, my blog is called Miss B’s High Seas, I’ve been working in the travel industry for 22 years (WOW that’s gone fast!). I have a great extensive knowledge of many destinations both to do with cruise & other travel too. But my real passion is Australia & New Zealand I absolutely love everything about these places! I must admit cruising is one of the best ways to see lots of amazing destinations in complete relaxed luxury, My favourite cruise line is Norwegian Cruise Line, as their relaxed atmosphere suits me down to the ground. So stay tuned to my blog for some great first hand experience and my opinions, reviews & other cool bits! Ciao for now! Miss B!

As Travel Agents we get to experience ship visits, giving us a great insight and first-hand knowledge on the cruise ships we sell

A few of us from Cruise Club UK joined the Caribbean Princess in Liverpool for the day, here’s our insight:

Newly renovated in March 2017, Caribbean Princess has had $8.2 million spent on her. Excited to see her makeover I couldn’t wait to discover her transformation.

The ship arrived late due to low fog, however I saw that as a benefit when we got to watch the smallest tug boat manoeuvre the huge Caribbean Princess into place. All checked in and given our visitor passes for the day we headed upto deck 7, aft – Club Fusion, this is a popular nightspot where live performances, karaoke and more take place.

atrium

A quick but in depth tour of the ship took us to the atrium for an exclusive performance from the ships entertainment staff. Princess pride themselves in the social hub of the atrium, with everything you could want all in one place. Plus if you’re like me who loves to people watch it’s the perfect place. International café – amazing peanut butter cookies and coffees to go plus much more – and its 24 hours – and no extra charge. Vines bar is a popular haunt with lots of wines on offer plus sushi freshly made.

Vines Bar

A behind the scenes tour of the galley (kitchens) gave us a great insight into how the chefs operate and prepare for the days ahead.

We were able to view an obstructed ocean view cabin, really good size plus all cabins now feature the Princess luxury bed.

The Lotus Spa area is a really good size and flows really well. Starting with the hair salon, nails and teeth whitening. This then takes you to the new gym area with panoramic views to sea. Plenty of treatment rooms on offer too. The Sanctuary is an exclusive area for adults only, with pool area and large sun loungers which I found impressive.

Now to everyone’s favourite – food:

Located next to Neptune’s Reef & Pool is Slice Pizzeria – delightful large slice of Pepperoni pizza went down well with a fresh glass of lemonade (ship visits are hard work after all). Also on this deck and can’t go without a mention is the Salty Dog Grill, it’s ‘Ernesto Burger’ has won awards for the best at sea! Also around the pool area and the perfect location is Coffee & Cones, again complimentary. The World Fresh Market Place is newly designed and as I walked through I just wanted to grab the delicious sandwiches and everything else on offer!

fddfg                       prin

A good old favourite is the Crown Grill, which is one of my favourite speciality dining venues. New to the ship is Planks BBQ and Steamers Seafood which are located opposite each other. Both very modern and clean and comes with a cover charge $$$$

Last stop of the day before a delightful 3 course meal was Skywalkers Nightclub. Situated aft on deck 15 with lovely panoramic views out to sea.

I was very impressed with Caribbean Princess, especially by the friendly staff and food options on offer. I would definitely look into booking my own itinerary onboard Caribbean Princess

Our Managing Director has just experienced the ‘Eight Wonder of the World’ – Welcome MSC Meraviglia. Fresh from her christening in Le Harve, France on 3rd June 2017 we bring you his insights and honest opinions from onboard

Designed for the future and surrounded in smart technology

The Godmother of all MSC ships is the beautiful and stylish Sophia Loren, a global icon of Italian cinema

Best described as the style of a Celebrity ship with all the fun of a Royal Caribbean Cruise.

Polar Aqua Park

Highlights include:

Impressive kids clubs, & includes under 3’s club (accompanied)

Top wines

Widest ship afloat

Complete resort

Waterpark with huge spilling bucket to get you drenched

MSC Yacht Club Restaurant

For those who have sailed with MSC before you will be pleased to know that the Yacht Club facilities are located in one area, forward on decks 16 – 19.

duplex-suite-2
Duplex Suite

Now the cabin: allocated a duplex suite which covers two decks. A large living area and balcony complete with a whirlpool bath. Located on deck 12, aft of the ship. Due to the location the balcony is covered with glass (protecting you from the winds), so no sunbathing – but rather spectacular views, peace and tranquillity

Evening meal was a gala meal located in the Panorama restaurant on deck 6. The food and service was top notch with fine wines served to match.

The highlight of the evening was the private showing of the exclusive ‘Cirque Du Soleil’s’ first ever performance at sea. Located in the Carousel Lounge, which has been custom designed to accommodate the world famous circus. Spectacular special effects with some amazing jaw dropping moments, definitely a must on your list!

IMG_3513

A must mention is the amusement park, fun for all ages. With Formula 1 racing cars, interactive cinema, flight simulator and a full size bowling alley – its thrills for all the family. Opposite is the Sportsplex idea for younger guests.

IMG_3525
LED Dome, the longest LED Sky screen at sea

Up early in the morning from the night before and walking around the indoor promenade with the tranquil sights and sounds of birds lit up along the LED sky screen. This changes throughout the day and really is utterly impressive and the largest at sea

This ship is designed with fun and family in mind. The facilities are awe inspiring and our DM liked it so much that he is booking his family summer 2017 cruise holiday back onboard MSC Meraviglia! With so many highlights onboard we highly recommend booking to experience all that is great about this ship….. you won’t be disappointed

I’ve just spent the past 2 nights onboard the iconic Cunard QM2

After the 4 hour train journey to Southampton I and my OAP mother arrived for our overnight hotel stay at the Harbour Grand Hotel. I’ve not sailed from Southampton for a good year and was surprised by the changes. A very modern and expensive ‘phase 2’ of West Quay is near completion, offering a huge variety of drinking and dining venues to choose from.

qm

Our tickets advised check in from 2pm, but being inpatient and excited we decided to get a taxi from our hotel to the port at 12pm. On arrival we were handed a card with a W on and asked to wait in the lounge until we were called. We didn’t need to wait long and finally got to checkin and embarked the QM2.

cabin

Once onboard with ship, with map in hand we headed straight to our assigned cabin. Now I’d booked this on a saver fare which meant our cabin and dining were allocated only weeks before departure. Deck 5, cabin 5223. Inside accessible cabin (both of us were able bodied) was very spacious and the first time I had ever stayed in an inside cabin. I was worried about the lack of light as neither I nor my mother like dark rooms, however was surprised with the light coming in from under the door made it perfect for us!

carintina
Carinthia Lounge

Carrying our QM2 map around we headed off for self-guided ship tour. First stop the Carinthia Lounge, the perfect place to relax and unwind and enjoy a light snack. I enjoyed a mini turkey blt, a light bight to eat and kept me going until our evening meal. We spent the next few hours wandering around the promenade on deck 7 with views over the aft pool on deck 6. Time came to sail away so we opted for a teak sun lounger in the sunshine. Having been allocated 1st dining at 6pm, we totally missed this as we were enjoying the weather and views too much. We decided to eat in Kings Court, which is a relaxed self-service restaurant, offering a good choice of starters/mains and desserts.

lib
Library onboard

Our 2 night cruise sailed to Zeebrugge Port and we booked a return shuttle service to Bruges so we could do our own thing once there.

port

*Top Tip*: Once off the ship a free port shuttle service takes you to the entrance/exit of the port. If you book an independent cruise excursion this is where the pick-up will be!

bruges
Bruges

Beautiful Brugge for the day: 8 Euro canal boat tour for 30 minutes and wandering around the cobbled streets. Great for chocolate lovers.

Back onboard for sail away at 530pm. We dined in Kings Court again followed by window shopping and enjoying a string quartet in the lobby. Finished off with a drink in Sir Samuel’s, surrounded by elegant art deco to unwind in.

I can honestly say we truly enjoyed our minibreak onboard QM2, now all I need to do is decide which Cunard ship to experience next

Brabant cruising the River Rhine

I blogged last week on the news that Fred. Olsen are venturing into river cruising (click here to view).

Great news today as we announce their itineraries and more:

Prices start from only £999pp based on 5th April 2018 – Springtime Dutch Discovery. Stay in a Juliette balcony by upgrading from only £30pppn. If you haven’t tried a river cruise yet this is the perfect time to book and take advantage of Fred. Olsen’s fantastic prices

As always Fred. Olsen are ‘single friendly’ offering selected twin rooms for sole occupancy at a reduced price

fred

Included in the cost of your cruise:

Complimentary tea & coffee station 24/7

Complimentary afternoon tea

Complimentary Wifi

Welcome cocktail, dinner and Captains gala

Gourmet dining – early riser breakfast, five course a la carte dinner plus late night snacks

Plus much more…

Date for the diary: On general sale 26th May 2017

Fred. Olsen will include a large amount of scenic cruising, giving you the most of daylight hours to enjoy the spectacular scenery – each day opens up new destinations and adventures. A selection of high quality shore excursions can be booked also, which have been designed to enhance guests

shutterstock_472437853

With a huge choice of 30 departures you will be spoilt for choice. I can personally recommend taking in an itinerary with Strasbourg, France which is located in the stunning Alsace Region. Having worked in this area you get to admire the breath-taking natural landscapes. Strasbourg is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its narrow cobbled streets, thousand year old cathedral and canals!

Which European river will you discover?

Only on a Princess Cruise can you spend an evening watching a movie under the stars, or enjoy the inviting piazza style grand atrium. From here you can enjoy entertainment whilst sipping fine wines at Vines Wine Bar or sip and snack around the clock at the International Café. We invite you to ‘Come Back New’ with Princess Cruises

I recently sailed onboard their new ship, Majestic Princess and enjoyed every minute! No complaints from me on the food or service. The Crown Grill speciality restaurant is definitely worth the cover charge. The best part for me was people watching in the piazza of an evening, and of course enjoying the drinks from one of the many bars close by.
