Anyone that has been on a Costa cruise will know that if you want to eat informally the options are usually very limited.  Usually the only informal option is the pizzeria which consists of pizza, pasta and salad only.

Well times are now changing… Costa Diadema now has an informal option available which is open for dinnertime as well as each evening between the hours of 7.00pm & 10.00pm! That is certainly good news as usually there are just the set settings which are 7.00pm which is the early option or 9.00pm which is the later option.

Now they have the more casual option of the Corona Blu self service restaurant. This is great news especially if your travelling with children as often they require a more informal style of dining. If you have been out all day on an excursion or if the children have been at the Squok club all day you really don’t want to be dressing up for a sit down formal meal at set times every night. Costa are changing with modern times and I for one will welcome the self service option as I have a 4 year old daughter. A good point to make is that there will be all the dishes created by the Costa chefs from the main restaurant as well as children’s food and a wide range of vegetarian food plus a vegan option.

If you haven’t been on a Royal Caribbean ship that features Johnny Rockets then I certainly recommend it, being a massive food lover myself I filled my boots when I was on the Anthem of the Seas. Johnny Rockets is a recreation of the retro inspired 1950’s American theme restaurant/diner therefore Royal Caribbean were the first to take the burger seriously.

Then followed Carnival Cruise line with the introduction of Guys burger Joint. Carnival teamed up with Guy Fieri who is a best-selling author, restaurateur and food network personality to create the perfect poolside burger joint. What a guy!!

Now Princess Cruises have followed suit and working with award winning chef Ernesto Uchimura, they have introduced the new rib eye burger rightfully named the Ernesto burger which will be served in its salty dog gastropub which is available on selected ships.

TUI cruises have also jumped on the burger trend and have introduced 6 new varieties of burgers which are served around the clock! For carnivores like myself one of the burgers is made from meat that comes from grass fed cattle and for the vegetarians they even have quinoa soy patties.

The Italian cruise line Costa cruises have even ‘Italianized’ there own signature burgers. They have created a real treat using 100% Fassona Beef accompanied with Italian cheese and served on Italian Bread! There will be 5 varieties of burger on offer using top quality ingredients and authentic Italian flavours. For adults and kids alike this is a new treat that will be available on selected ships from January 2016.

The huge 4,100 passenger Norwegian Epic is a big seller for us here at Cruise Club UK. She went into dry dock last month for three weeks for refurbishment and I for one wondered what changes had been made to what already is a fantastic ship……

She now boasts a whole range of new features and enhancements. The biggest change is the launch of the Cavern Club (formerly Fat Cats). In here is the spirit of the iconic Liverpool nightspot made famous as a venue for some of The Beatles early shows. This was designed in partnership with the real club which is now 57 years old! The lightening is dim and there is plenty of red brick on show which recreates the atmosphere of 1960s club. The club feature Beatles inspired music from international artists.

The long running Blue Man group has been replaced by the amazing award winning musical that is ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’ which is sure to be a massive hit with passengers. This joins the popular dance show ‘Burn the Floor’ added earlier this year.

Another brand new feature is a splash golf game in the ships kids Aqua Park. The combination of water features along with mini golf is a great new fun feature sure to please the kids.

The 155,873 tonnage ship also received refreshed décor, furnishings and carpeting to many of its dining venues including Moderno churrascaria, Le Bistro French eatery, Cagneys steakhouse, Italian restaurant la cucina, Garden café buffet and main dining rooms.

Further refitting includes a brand new photo gallery, library and card room. More refurbishments took place in the Mandara Spa, Bliss Ultra Lounge, pool deck marketplace, Epic theatre, Casino and the exclusive Haven suite complex.

Overall a lot was done to the ship during the three weeks it was dry docked. The Epic already was a fantastic ship before these enhancements took place so anyone thinking of sailing on her now is definitely in for a treat! If you are thinking of trying this amazing ship or need advice/help feel free to contact me directly at Cruise Club UK on 0161 798 2518.

As Cruising has become more diverse over the years so has the dress code and what to wear and what not to wear is often the question cruisers are faced with when packing for their cruise holiday. Each cruise line usually has its own policy’s regarding this subject and from one cruise line to another they can be very different policy’s. I have put together below a guide for some of the most popular cruise lines and what there policy’s are to help you with what to wear during your trip.

Azamara Club Cruises

Azamara have what they call a ‘Resort Casual’ policy which generally is a very relaxed dress code. Attire such as shorts, sportswear, casual dresses are all perfect for this cruise line. They have no formal nights so formal attire is not expected nor required. Main restriction is no swimwear or Jeans in the dining room however jeans are permitted in the buffet restaurant.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival are quite relaxed with their dress code. The only restrictions tend to be on the formal nights where a more smart approach is to be taken but ties, tuxedos and cocktails dresses can be worn but are not required. In the dining room no shorts, swimwear or cut off jeans are permitted.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises have a ‘Smart casual and above’ policy. What they mean by this is smart casual on informal nights and on formal nights a more elegant attire. On the formal nights either a tuxedo or suit is required for gentleman and for ladies an evening gown would be appropriate. Jeans are permitted on smart casual nights as long as these are not ripped they will be permitted.

Costa Cruises

Costa Cruises have a relaxed approach with ‘Resort wear’ being appropriate throughout so basically as along as there are no shorts or swimming wear worn in the dining room then more or less anything goes. Costa cruises do have formal nights but a tuxedo would be over the top so I would suggest suit for the gentleman and evening dress for the ladies.

As Cunard are a more traditional cruise line they have mainly an elegant dress attire throughout. For example their semiformal attire would be a jacket and tie and cocktail dress for the ladies and more formal nights would require black tie or dark suit for the gentleman and evening dress for the ladies.

Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean have a ‘smart casual’ approach throughout but as with a lot of the American cruise lines they have formal nights which is suit with black tie or tuxedo and evening dress for the ladies.

P&O Cruises

P&O Cruises have smart casual throughout aswell as formal nights where guests should wear more elegant attire such as dinner jacket/dark suit and evening dress for the ladies. On the more casual nights sportswear is not permitted but any other casual attire is fine.

Norwegian Cruise line

Norwegian Cruise line have no policy on dress code they pride themselves on being ‘Freestyle’ meaning as you please really!! They have no formal nights meaning you can dress up as much or as little as you want!! There are no restrictions as such just guide lines to guide you as what would be appropriate.

I hope this helps when your packing for your trip but if you need further help/advice please call me directly 0161 798 2518

Holland America introduces its new ship MS Koningsdam in April 2016. It is the first in a new class for Holland America and introduces a new era of ‘Pinnacle class cruising’. Pinnacle means ‘High point’ and the debut of Koningsdam is certainly a high point in Holland America lines history. This stunning new ship takes 2,650 guests and displays the tradition, nautical heritage, style and signature service that the cruise line are well known for mixed with 21st century elegance.

Things to expect onboard……

In collaboration with Michelle, Washingtons states oldest and finest winery this intimate venue allows guests the opportunity to blend their own wine and enjoy it either in their stateroom or during dinner.

The venue will accommodate 10 guests at a time who can create their own blend from a selection of five barrels single-vineyard red wine. The sessions are lead by a wine expert giving further opportunity for guests to learn all there is to know about wine.

Culinary Arts Centre

The Culinary arts centre presented by Food & Wine magazine is a dramatic show kitchen used for exclusive activities with visiting celebrity chefs aswell as ships own experts. Activities include demonstrations and hands on classes aswell as workshops. There will also be activities exclusively for kids and teens also in this venue.

Digital workshop

Harmony of the Seas makes her debut with a European cruise season May through till October 2016 and then will follow up with 7 night Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings from November 2016 out of Fort Lauderdale. Harmony of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s third Oasis Class cruise ship and is packed with even more brand new innovations.

She is the first ship that features ‘Splashaway bay’ which is an interactive aquapark for kids. I would describe this as a vibrant waterscape for kids and toddlers complete with a multi-platform jungle gym, gigantic drench bucket and sea creature water cannons.

There is also three new waterslides known as The perfect storm which are named cyclone, typhoon and supercell for guests to enjoy even more thrills. Harmony also has The ultimate abyss which is a 10 storey slide begins in the pool and sports zone at the aft of the ship down to the boardwalk neighbourhood below.

Harmony in usual Royal Caribbean style features some fantastic eateries featuring fine cuisine from around the world. You can dine in the modern Japanese restaurant Izumi or sample classic Mexican dishes at Sabor or for a more casual approach perhaps grab a slice of pizza at Sorrento’s. The ship also features a bionic bar onboard where you can have your favorite cocktail prepared by a robot!

Entertainment on board in general with any of Royal Caribbeans ships that I have experienced is outstanding. Harmony like the rest certainly does not disappoint with performances that will amaze and dazzle you. Broadway style shows are a must see or why not spend an evening at the aquatheartre.

Why not secure your place aboard this amazing ship and prepare for the wow factor!! For expert advice call me directly on 0161 798 2518.

In my opinion the clear winner for best cruise line for teens is Royal Caribbean Cruise line!

As we all know teenagers require distraction and constant brain stimulation to stop them getting bored whilst they are on holiday, Royal Caribbean gives them all of this. The line taps into the bottomless well of energy with their abundance of great activities and facilities. Depending on the ship the line boasts rock climbing walls, zip lines, ice skating, roller skating, bumper cars, surf simulators, boxing rings, volleyball courts, basketball courts and arcades. For its youth programs, Royal Caribbean wisely splits teens into their appropriate age groups. The cruise line makes the underage crowd feel like mini adults with sophisticated amenities such as spa treatments, DJ lessons, teens only casino nights, backstage tours of the ship. They also have exclusive lounges where there are no elders allowed. In these exclusive areas they can dance, drink mocktails, and socialize with others of the same age. The action packed schedule is overseen by an attentive crew, allowing parents to enjoy downtime without worrying that the teens are getting bored. If this isn’t enough they also have wifi on all of their ships along with internet terminals so the little adults can keep up with their social media.

A very close runner up in my opinion is Norwegian Cruise Line with similar exclusive spaces for the teens as well as sophisticated parties and theme nights including the ‘black light glow party’ and the ‘dinner and a show night’. They also have pop culture and retro-hip activities such as ‘American idol’ style shows and Nintendo wii matches. The cruise line also has late night dining venues and top deck activities such waterslides, rock climbing walls and rope courses to keep them busy.

I have Just got back from an amazing trip around the Greek Isles aboard Rhapsody of the Seas with my family I really did love every minute of the trip and would like to share my experience with you.

I haven’t experienced a smaller ship in Royal Caribbean’s fleet before and indeed wondered if there would be enough to do on-board during the sea days. I was very surprised as there was lots to do for all age groups. For the Kids/Teens there is an amazing kids club & teen zone offering various activities as well as an arcade section with simulators and games. For the adults there are various bars as well as a casino, Library, Art gallery and theatre. The entertainment was fabulous, always something going on and the entertainment staff themselves were hilarious! A great highlight for myself and family was a reggae band by the name of ‘one love’ they were absolutely amazing! In the afternoon while everybody relaxed by the pool on deck 9 they played for a few hours most days and really got the atmosphere going we all felt like we were in the Caribbean.

The food onboard was absolutely amazing always somewhere to eat no matter what time of day it was and the food was to an extremely high standard. I would definitely advise not to do the second sitting as this is 9pm and usually the meal didn’t end until at about 10:45pm which was far too late. The service in the restaurant as well as everywhere else was to a very high standard and the staff on-board were extremely helpful. It was my fathers birthday and I arranged with the waiter to do a cake for him it only cost me around $13 and the waiters sang to him and made his day special. Overall we had a fabulous time and would certainly recommend the ship and Royal Caribbean to family and friends.
