Wendy Mulholland

Hi, I’m Wendy and I’m thrilled to have recently joined the Cruise Club UK team. After spending 15 years in the travel industry I ventured out into the world of training and development where I spent a number of years training and supporting staff in the travel industry to achieve their goals. Booking dream holidays is something I’ve always missed and I’ve wanted to return to what I do best, arranging and booking holidays for customers. Well here I am and I’m loving every single second of it, the team at Cruise Club UK have such passion about cruising and customer service is our priority. I love cruising and I’ve been very fortunate to cruise with a variety of different cruise lines to destinations such as Far East, Middle East, Alaska, Europe and Caribbean. I love the fact that you can see some many different destinations in one holiday and when you look at the cost and what’s included its usually better value than a hotel based holiday, what’s not to like? Fantastic service, food and entertainment all in one place and I’m amazed at some of the fantastic offers that are available with some of the cruise lines such as free drinks, on board credit, speciality dining and internet and they are amazing for families who have children and quite often work out better value than a family package holiday. Give me a call today on 0161 798 2570, I look forward to helping you in arranging your dream cruise. Thank you for taking the time to read all about me and I look forward to helping you soon and sharing some of my own lovely cruising experiences with you.

Norwegian Jade returns out of dry dock.

Norwegian Cruise Line ship Norwegian Jade emerged from a refit in dry dock ahead of the line’s first full summer of sailings from the UK. I recently went on board during her visit to Newcastle and was impressed by what I saw.

The 2,466-passenger vessel was revamped over a three-week period with two new restaurants, two new bars and lounges, updated design and decor in many public spaces and a refurbishment of all cabins.

The ship completes its winter season of sailings from Tampa in Florida to the Caribbean on April 30 and will then reposition across the Atlantic for its dual summer homeports of Southampton and Hamburg.

The new-look Norwegian Jade will run itineraries to the Norwegian fjords as well as Norway and the North Cape throughout the summer.

NCL Europe, Middle East and Africa managing director, Christian Boell, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Norwegian Jade back to Europe this summer with her upgraded look.

“It is our sincere goal to deliver a fantastic vacation experience across our entire fleet, and this has come in time for Jade’s arrival in Europe, where she will be sailing directly from Southampton.

“With five ships in Europe this summer, we are so excited for passengers to experience the newly renovated Jade on European waters.”

The ship now offers 24-hour free pub grub at O’Sheehan’s and complimentary poolside fare (think burgers and fries) at Pit Stop, a 1950s-style diner where classic car accents and vintage license plates serve as decor.

Both restaurants are new to the ship, which has undergone renovations as part of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Edge program, which aims to make the cruise experience more uniform across all ships, regardless of size or age.

Additionally, Moderno Churrascaria was relocated and now offers sea views; more seating was added to Cagney’s Steakhouse, which now boasts a virtual fireplace; La Cucina, the ship’s Italian restaurant, was spruced up and now features a wine wall; and Japanese hibachi venue Teppanyaki received a facelift, along with Jasmine Garden and Garden Cafe.

Other changes to public spaces include upgrades to the pool areas, the Sugarcane mojito bar and the Spinnaker Lounge; new Techno Gym equipment in the fitness centre; and the addition of Bliss Ultra Lounge, a nightclub with a Miami vibe. In the atrium, a new custom-designed chandelier hangs overhead.

All cabins on board were outfitted with new carpet, furniture, flat-screen TVs and headboards with USB charging outlets. Villas, suites and cabins in The Haven, Norwegian’s “ship within a ship” concept, have new finishes on walls and ceilings, as well as new draperies and flooring. The Haven also features four new cabanas. In all, the ship’s staterooms display more than 2,250 pieces of upgraded artwork.

For the next month, Norwegian Jade will offer its regular winter season itineraries to the Western Caribbean from Tampa. On April 30, the ship will relocate to Europe via a transatlantic voyage, spending its summer sailing to Norway from Southampton and Hamburg.

Whilst touring the ship I visited the following; –

I recently visited Liverpool Cruise Terminal whilst visiting the Seven Seas Explorer, this was the first time I had visited the terminal having previously only visited larger ports such as Southampton. I found it easy to get to and although on a much smaller scale the Southampton check in was easy and boarding the ship was a simple process.  Here are some facts about the terminal and some info on the Liverpool Cruise Terminal which has earned a reputation as one of the most desirable cruise destinations in Europe.

Centrally placed in the Irish Sea and so an ideal starting point for North European and Norwegian Fjord cruises; Liverpool is an efficient, friendly and convenient UK departure point. The Liverpool Cruise Terminal is a 350-metre-long floating structure situated on the River Mersey enabling large cruise ships to visit without entering the enclosed dock system or berthing mid-river and tendering passengers ashore. The terminal was officially opened on 21 September 2007 by HRH The Duke of Kent when the Queen Elizabeth 2 berthed at the terminal.

Liverpool is a city rich in maritime heritage and was the birthplace of the first passenger cruise line. Since the cruise terminal opened in 2007, the port has renewed its links with the great ocean liners of the world; Queen Mary 2, has since graced the river Mersey on numerous occasions.

From technical planning to practical support, a team of highly qualified people deliver a professional and excellent service to every visiting cruise ship. World class hospitality has ensured Liverpool is a firm favourite with international passengers – Cruise Critic awarded us the ‘Best UK Port of Call’ three times in the last four years and in 2015 Sea trade crowned Liverpool ‘Destination of the Year’.

During the 19th Century the Port of Liverpool was the world’s busiest and wealthiest port; over 9,000,000 people emigrated from the city to North America.

The city has experienced a remarkable cultural and economic renaissance. There has been an unprecedented level of public and private sector investment that has transformed the city centre, delivering new cultural assets, shopping venues and transport infrastructure – Rough Guide stated they were in the Top 3 cities in the World to visit.

Liverpool is an amazing paradox, it is a city bursting with energy and passion to be explored and enjoyed – not forgetting its inhabitants who are famously friendly and will welcome you with pride.

Cruise lines such as Cunard, Celebrity, Princess and Silversea sail into the city, Liverpool truly is on the global cruise map. Its popularity can be seen in the 115,000+ passengers & crew from around the world who have come ashore to explore Liverpool during 2017 and it doesn’t stop there.

The following ships are set to call at Liverpool for the remainder of the year:

Saturday 05 Aug 2017 –  Zuiderdam (Holland America)

Wednesday 09 Aug 2017 – Caribbean Princess (Princess)

Friday 11 Aug 2017 – Prinsendam (Holland America)

Monday 14 Aug 2017 – Boudicca (Fred Olsen)

Thursday 17 Aug 2017 –  Silhouette (Celebrity)

Friday 18 Aug 2017 – Symphony (Crystal)

Sunday 20 Aug 2017 – Marco Polo (Cruise and Maritime Voyages)

Thursday 24 Aug 2017 – Rotterdam (Holland America)

Monday 28 Aug 2017 – Boudicca (Fred Olsen)

Tuesday 29 Aug 2017 – Boudicca (Fred Olsen)

Friday 01 Sep 2017 – Marco Polo (Cruise and Maritime Voyages)

Tuesday 05 Sep 2017 – Magellan (Cruise and Maritime Voyages)

Wednesday 06 Sep 2017 – Boudicca (Fred Olsen)

Saturday 09 Sep 2017 –   Pacific Princess (Princess)

Sunday 17 Sep 2017 – Nautica (Oceania Cruises)

Tuesday 19 Sep 2017 –    Seven Seas Explorer (Prestige)

Friday 22 Sep 2017 – Boudicca (Fred Olsen)

Friday 29 Sep 2017 – Marco Polo (Cruise and Maritime Voyages)

Saturday 30 Sep 2017 –   Boudicca (Fred Olsen)

Saturday 14 Oct 2017 – Boudicca (Fred Olsen)

Give Liverpool a try, I’m sure you will be impressed by what it has to offer, I certainly was.

A while back I blogged about the refit of the Queen Victoria, her refit is now complete. I was eager to see what changes had taken place compared to what was originally stated, I wasn’t disappointed. During the refit of Cunard’s Queen Victoria, her service offering has been brought in line with that of the rest of the fleet and her popular aft lido sun deck has been expanded.

The new design maximises and transforms her aft deck space to create a stunning contemporary mix of sun and shade, more akin to a luxury resort roof terrace – perfect for sailing around the Mediterranean. Guests are now able to enjoy more generous seating, enhanced deck furniture, extended shaded areas, al fresco dining options and a full beverage service throughout the day and into the evening, with live entertainment.

Contrary to speculation that Queen Victoria’s popular Chart Room was to be removed during her refit, it has simply been moved. And in the process, refined with the allure and glamour of a classic cocktail bar from the heyday of her key sailing destinations. Through charts and cartography, her elegant new menu navigates destination-specific stories, pairing a selection of classic beverages with light canapés and snacks – and the introduction of delectable Godiva chocolates. In the evening, this elegant venue serves cocktails linked to celestial charts from which ships used to navigate. Signature specials will be created for different destinations and voyages.

The Midships Lounge has also received some special attention with the introduction of a gin and fizz themed menu, including gin served from an old-fashioned spirit tap – to infuse a more distinctive character. This brings to life wines, Prosecco, Cava and Champagne alongside premium gin and spirits, all blended to create fresh and inspiring cocktails.

The Yacht club

The Yacht Club makes its dazzling debut on board Queen Victoria, featuring expansive seating and extended serving hours. In the daytime, the Club hosts a greater range of social activities, in addition to many insightful and entertaining events. At 3.00pm, the deck transitions into pre- and post-dinner entertainment venue with superb dedicated jazz music, followed by a DJ and dance band late into the night.

One surprising constant with Cunard is change: they continually strive to bring you an even more refined experience. That is why, during the refit of Queen Victoria, two of her popular public areas have been refreshed. The Winter Garden is a beautifully relaxed room in the heart of deck 9 close to the pool and Lido buffet. Flooded with natural light, the room’s floor to ceiling windows command some of the best views across the ship and out to sea. Perfect for watching the world go by whilst enjoying a beverage, the comfort and décor of the Winter Garden has been further refined: from the statement floor, glorious glass canopy to the elegant lounge furniture.

Following Queen Victoria’s refit, guests wishing to escape or entertain within their Cunard Grand Suite can discover a host of enhancements. These include a clever configuration of furniture to maximise comfort and convenience, together with refreshed interior design. The many other appeals of a Cunard Grand Suite include: floor to ceiling windows and doors, a separate snug room with TV, a beautifully-appointed lounge, a master bathroom with sea view, a second bathroom with guest access, a bedroom TV that folds down from the ceiling, a walk-in wardrobe with additional storage units, and a generous dual aspect balcony.

Some changes to staterooms have taken place.

Britannia Club balconies

Britannia Club accommodation and dining comes to Cunard’s Queen Victoria with the introduction of 43 spacious Britannia Club balcony staterooms in a prime midship location on decks 7 and 8.

Britannia Club restaurant.

Each Britannia Club stateroom features all the hallmarks of Cunard style and comfort, but further enhanced with premium balconies, a nine-pillow concierge menu and the freedom to dine whenever you choose in a new Britannia Club restaurant.

Was this a refit fit for a Queen? I think I would have to agree.

In June I was fortunate enough to be able to see Regents Seven Seas Explorer whilst she was docked in Liverpool, a number of agents were invited on board to experience what she has to offer. I have cruised with many other lines but this was my first experience of a six star ship.  Compared to other cruise ships the explorer is on a much smaller scale however I realised afterwards that this doesn’t compromise on luxury.  Here are some of the things which I was lucky enough to see on the day.

Chartreuse – A Parisian Experience at Sea

The lavish ambiance and epicurean delights found in Paris’ finest eateries will come to life aboard Seven Seas Explorer with a tantalizing new gourmet French specialty restaurant called Chartreuse. Featuring a classic French menu with a modern twist, Chartreuse will evoke memories of a chic Parisian fine dining restaurant perfected only by the finest French wines from boutique vineyards of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhône and Loire Valleys and a menu that features dishes expertly prepared using both classic and modern techniques for a multiple course celebration of French gastronomy.

Using only the finest ingredients, the menu is highlighted by epicurean delights including hand-cut Charolais steak tartare in a hazelnut-Dijon emulsion topped with Perlita caviar d’Aquitaine, roasted Cévennes rack of lamb with rosemary-mint persillade and sugar snap pea sauce, and poached Brittany blue lobster tail glazed with caramelized lobster roe butter on a bed of Sologne white asparagus and Romanesco. Delectable desserts include a frozen Chartreuse parfait with almond crumble and classic savarin cake made with aged Martinique rum and topped with vanilla cream.

Pacific Rim

A dramatic new Pan-Asian specialty restaurant, Pacific Rim, will join the eclectic array of gourmet dining options aboard Seven Seas Explorer. As the third specialty restaurant, it will feature a diverse array of delightfully prepared Pan-Asian dishes, to be savoured in an elegantly appointed dining room whose design takes inspirational cues from a variety of Asian cultures, such as a Tibetan prayer wheel, lotus shaped windows, traditional Japanese rain chains and customary Chinese screens all melded harmoniously together into a singular concept ideal for the restaurant’s Pan-Asian fare.

To complement the stunning décor, Pacific Rim’s chefs created a delectable menu of Pan-Asian creations that celebrate the culinary traditions of Asia. Let our team of chefs delight you with delicious dishes such as grilled Korean barbecue lamb chops, wok-fried beans, eryngii mushroom and gochujang dressing.

Pacific Rim

Star billing in the Compass Rose, the flagship restaurant of our fleet – apart from the gourmet cuisine and service – has to go to the stunning chandelier made from a cascade of aqua-blue glass ‘teardrops’ that brings the feel of the ocean into the venue, beautifully complement with rich woods and light marble stone and mother of pearl in light shades of blue, white, gold and silver. Compass Rose delights with an elegantly refined atmosphere and transitions from refreshing natural light during the day to a romantic ice blue lighting theme at night. This is the perfect setting for you to enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner, where the menu features an exceptional variety of Continental cuisine.

Le Veranda/Sette Mari

Inspired by the views of the Italian Riviera, the ambiance of La Veranda is one of everyday glamour. Rich blues and whites, contrasted with terrazzo floors and teak wood accents adorn the interior spaces, creating a stylish and spacious al fresco casual dining area, replete with comfortable cushioned seating and striped awnings that allow the breeze to flow through. In the evenings, La Veranda transforms into the warm and inviting Sette Mari at La Veranda, where tables are candlelit to match the star-filled skies. The menu also transforms into a tantalizing journey of alluring antipasto, perfect homemade pastas, enticing main courses and desserts hailing from all over Italy. Dining alfresco is simply divine

Prime 7

True classic in every sense, the Prime 7 restaurant aboard Seven Seas Explorer personifies luxury at every turn. Handsomely decorated with ingenious uses of glass, metal and granite, you will feel as if you have arrived at an iconic members-only club. Enjoy a cocktail at the bar before being taken to your personal banquette. And after savouring a succulent filet mignon or a mouth-watering côte de boeuf, delight in a digestif and lively conversation with fellow guests in the comfort of supple leather wing-back chairs. And, the library, located to the side of the restaurant, doubles as a private dining room for those in search of the ultimate in exclusivity.

The cafe

Visit The Café on Deck 5 mid-ship to enjoy complimentary coffee drinks prepared by our baristas, as well as delicious pastries, gourmet sandwiches and homemade cookies. Additionally, international newspapers and news magazines are made available. This venue to your destination to relax, meet other guests and enjoy coffee and snacks throughout the day.

Onboard entertainment

Celebrity Family friendly cruising

Have you ever been put off cruising in favour of a land based family holiday due to concerns about childcare? Well fear no more as during my cruise on board the Celebrity Equinox last August  I came across the on board childcare facilities whilst having a walk around the ship and to my suprise was amazed by what it had to offer.  I left thinking that if I was to ever cruise with children I would be very happy with what was being offered.  The area is located in a quiet area with a special area designed just for teenagers.

Onboard Celebrity Cruises there’s a range of activities and venues designed for every age group. From the Fun Factory, exciting games and activities for younger kids, to X Club, the ultimate hang out for young adults, there’s something for everyone. Add in family-friendly dining options, sports courts, pool-volleyball, and Family Tour Challenges shore excursions, and you’ve got the perfect family holiday.

“Celebrity Edge Godmother, the news is out”

The news is out about who is going to be the new Celebrity Edges Godmother.

Malala Yousafzai will be the godmother of the Celebrity Edge, a ship due in late 2018.

Yousafzai is a 19-year-old Pakistani woman who received the Nobel Peace Prize for her advocacy of girls’ education. She came to prominence for writing a blog about the subject as an 11-year-old living in a Taliban-occupied area of her country.

In 2012, she was severely injured and nearly died when a Taliban gunman shot her on a bus. Since then, she has become a prominent education activist. She founded the nonprofit Malala Fund and in 2013 co-authored “I am Malala,” an international bestseller.

In 2014, she was announced as the co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and was the youngest recipient ever at 17 years old.

As well as naming Yousafzai godmother, Celebrity announced a two-year partnership to support and promote the Malala Fund.

“Partnering with Malala Fund was a natural fit as we share the same passion and commitment to an incredible cause,” Celebrity CEO and president Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said.

“Malala is an inspiration and a voice of hope,” said Richard Fain, chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, Celebrity’s parent company. “This young woman is on a powerful mission, and we support it 100 percent.”

The Celebrity Edge is now available to book for forthcoming voyages, being a Celebrity fan myself I am looking forward to helping my customers book their dream cruise.
