Middle East

Cosmopolitan cities await in the Far East, most cruise lines starting points for the Far East start in Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Beijing, Bali and Shanghai. You will find most cruise lines offer a pre cruise stay in the above cities, giving you the opportunity to explore and experience the sights, sounds and delights of the city.

TOP TIPS:

Far East cruise season is November to March

Bathroom facilities vary from Country to Country, most of us will know from holidaying in Greece where you put the toilet paper in a bin! In the Far East ‘squat toilets’ are common, best advice is to wait for a toilet break until your near hotels where the facilities will be Westernised.

Check visa requirements before booking your cruise

Some port to city transfers can be long. Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok are approx. 3 hours

If you’re looking for adventure then cruise excursions offer the perfect way to experience rainforests, plus much more

Looking for a Castaway Experience?

Visiting the Indian Ocean will take in the stunning islands of the Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Maldives, India and Mauritius plus many more. You won’t find skyscrapers here, instead you’ll discover an authentic charm, swaying palms and turquoise lagoons

Most cruise lines visiting this area tend to be the smaller ships as it’s much easier for them to navigate

STAFF TOP TIP:

Try the local fruit, it’s totally yummy and not found in the UK

Rainy season is December through to April

The Middle East cruise region takes in the Arabic Countries that border Arabia and the Red Sea

TOP TIP:

Repositioning cruises operate late October/November and again in late March early April, always very popular with competitive prices

The most popular destination is the Arabian Gulf, where pre or post hotel stays are on offer. Perfect for desert adventures, cultural sight-seeing and shopping

Dress-code: it gets very hot in the summer months, Western casual wear is a definite no! Woman should cover up, take a scarf which can also be used to cover your head in mosques

Guaranteed winter-sunshine all within a 7 hour flight

It’s plan a cruise month this October 2017. Each week will have a different destination theme, week 3 is Australasia, so please read on and discover Cruise Club UK’s top cruise tips, including staff top tips too.

For those who are yet to cruise it can be a challenge on where to start looking and what suits your needs. Here we aim to provide you with the best tips to get the most out of your dream cruise:

Highly recommend a pre/post cruise stay to get the most out of your destination

You’ll be amazed at how different and diverse the cities of Australia are

STAFF TOP TIP:

Circumnavigation cruises (or bottom end cruises) around the south of Australia take in the stunning Esperance. Visit the pink lake, see the whitest sands Australia has to offer or just meet a kangaroo sunbathing on the beach! This is my all time favourite destination in Australia

South Pacific – sailing from Australia or New Zealand means numerous days at sea before you even hit the South Pacific. The nearest and lesser known islands of New Caledonia and Isle of Pines are reached first and are ideal for a 7 night cruise, if however you want to cruise to the more popular islands of Fiji you will need to cruise for a longer duration

Know the customs – woman should cover up in a modest way to fit in with the Islanders. Also tipping isn’t a common practice

TOP TIP:

New Zealand – a day excursion to the Bay of Islands (north of Auckland) is a must visit, it’s one of my favourite places in New Zealand

TOP TIP:

When visiting Napier, head to the tourist office for your free self-guided tour map of the stunning art deco buildings

Come back next week for CLIA Cruise Month focus on Aisa
