Disney Cruise Lines have announced they are building their SEVENTH cruise ship

Last year, the magical cruise line announced they would have an additional two new ships in their fleet by 2021 and 2023. With the two new ships on order, they have today announced they have up-sized their ship order from two to three new ships.

The third new ship is set to be debuting in 2022.

All three ships are designed the same with around 1,250 cabins on board. This will offer occupancy to 2,500 guests. These are slightly larger than the last two ships from Disney, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy launched back in 2011 and 2012.

The three new ship names, itineraries and designs are all still being developed and are yet to be announced by the family cruise line. It is said that each ship will have its own unique features.

The Chairman of Walt Disney said that two new ships would not be enough to hold all of the new experiences they have been planning for the ships, that is why they have another on the Horizon. The new ships are set to transform the art of cruising and take guests on adventures in a way they have never dreamed before.

Now, I don’t know about you but i am a huge Disney fan and this is very exciting news! Having travelled to the Disney parks in Florida and Los Angeles, i know exactly what this company are capable of and blowing your mind is certainly one thing they do very well.

What is the first thing you do when you embark a cruise ship?

When I embark my cruise, the first thing I do is head straight up to the top deck by the pool and grab a cocktail. I will generally sit and stay here for an hour or so, taking in the new surroundings and people on board. In this time my husband has usually made his way to the buffet restaurant to get a head start on the “eating” week ahead. After an hour or so relaxing and checking out what the top deck has to offer, we make our way down the ship, deck-by-deck. This gives us a chance to see some of the ship before the rest of the passengers are on board.

When we are finished with having a walk around, if our cabin is ready we will go and check it out. Then we will head back up to the top deck to soak up more sun and cocktails.

I am sure most of you agree, one thing I hate to have to do when I embark is go to the muster drill. I feel as though my holiday has just got going and then It is put on hold for a very short while for the drill. Sitting there waiting for the other passengers to arrive at the drill is almost as annoying! I try to be the last one there, so I am the first out. And, lets be honest, the Drill is not the most entertaining to keep your attention.

This is why I think Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd are brilliant to have introduced an eight-minute video for their muster drill, which is designed to bring some fun to the dreaded drill on board!

All three brands; Azamara Club Cruises, Celebrity Cruise Line & Royal Caribbean Cruise Line will all be introducing the new video across their fleets. Azamara Club Cruises and Celebrity Cruise Line have already been showing the video on their ships, RCCL will introduce on their ships this month.

Named as “Operation: Little Bear” – The new muster video is a short film following the adventures of a secret agent who has been sent on board a cruise ship to intercept a gold teddy before it gets in to the hands of the wrong person. The agent on board has an off ship partner who supports her and helps her navigate around the ship and all of the safety procedures she will need to follow along the way.

According to the Cruise Company, the film will dramatize the do’s and don’ts of the safety on board in an entertaining way and promote the recall of safety messages.

So, lets hope the muster drill is no longer dreaded and is more welcomed by passengers.

Nicknamed as the “Big Easy”, New Orleans is a Louisiana city located on the Mississippi River, close to the Gulf of Mexico.

For the first time in three years, Royal Caribbean will be docking the Vision of the Seas cruise ship here for the 2018/19 winter season, offering seven night sailings to the Bahamas and Mexico.

Prior to moving to New Orleans in December 2018, the ship will sail two 16-night Panama Canal voyages from Miami to Los Angeles, and then from Los Angeles to New Orleans. This will also be the first time in 3 years that Royal Caribbean will offer Panama Canal sailings.

Well known for its vibrant live-music and twenty-four-seven nightlife, New Orleans has lots of offer. The festival spirit will be in full swing when they sail the winter season, with the late-winter carnival renowned for its raucous costume parades and street parties. The French quarter is a great place to hang out with jazz music sounding all day and all night long. Be sure to try the cuisine whilst there, as the city is French-Founded, this has a huge influence over the food.

Music is a Huge part of the New Orleans culture, with a huge thanks to legend Louis Armstrong who was a native of the Big Easy, and now has a public park named after him; Louis Armstrong Park. New Orleans International Airport is named New Orleans Louis Armstrong Airport.

It could be that famous play writer Thomas Lanier “Tennessee” Williams III said it better than anyone: “America has only three cities; New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans.” Even the Bright lights of Las Vegas and the Sky High buildings of New York do not compare to this unique city. New Orleans is a place like no other with a must see SkyLine for everyone visiting.

This is a place on my bucket list that I will definitely be visiting and to combine with my favourite cruise line of all time is a must for me. So, if your sailing on the Vision of the Seas from New Orleans, I may see you there.

Carried on from my previous blog regarding P&O’s ships, P&O also do family cruising very well too, and here is the advantage of having specialised ships for different categories

Beginning with the smallest is the Aurora catering for 1874 guests, this elegant ship has a tiered stern, long bow and sleek funnel. This was my first P&O cruise and I was not disappointed in this world class ship. Her main feature is a stunning 4 deck atrium, perfect for formal evenings and featuring a dramatic 35ft scuplture.

Aurora also sails the world during the Winter world cruise and Europe and Scandinavia in Summer season for varying lengths between 3 and 25 nights

A family favourite is the Oceana, a mid sized ship carrying 2016 passengers. For the last 2 years she has been based in the Med as a fly cruise with alternate 7 and 14 night itineraries sailing around the West and East Mediterranean, giving people the opportunity to visit ports that are just that little out of reach on a Southampton sailing. This has proved very popular with P&O passengers and was a gamble worth taking, especially as they offer direct regional charter flights from many airports in the UK.

One of the first family ships to have a more informal atmosphere, Oceana’s redeeming features are a bustling atrium with palm trees and glass fronted lifts giving it a very airy vibe, and a secret sports court in her funnel is a constant surprise for all

Ventura is the most popular ship for families with lots of features. This was a huge step forward for P&O building a ship so big carrying 3078 people, and was launched to rival Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas.

Ventura has everything, shes a very sociable ship where there is always something going on, whether its kids playing in The Reef, adults relaxing in the Spa, 4 pools and a sports court and a 2 deck theatre for evening shows

Azura followed 2 years later and from the popularity of her sister ship Ventura P&O went bigger and better, she is one of the largest ships in P&O’s fleet. Described as a social paradise at sea this ships is great for all ages. she blends pure sophistication with a family friendly vibe and is a favourite with my passengers. Sailing from Barbados for some Winter sunshine and Europe and the Med in Summer

2015 saw the launch of Britannia, P&O’s new flagship, it’s moto……’Inspired by our past designed for the future’. This description perfectly describes the new innovations that P&O introduced on this new modern ship with a very different look to previous ships, even being voted best new ocean ship in 2015 and is the largest ship built exclusively for the UK market. From those first steps onboard be mesmorised by the spectacular ‘starburst’ centrepiece of her atrium, relax in the Retreat, have a cookery lesson with a host of famous chefs, watch a west end style show or The Beatles experience in the Live lounge, there is so much to do you will struggle to disembark at your chosen ports

And now for the exciting news, 2020 sees the launch of P&O’s next ship, promised to take cruising to a whole new generation, details are kept a secret so we can only wait in anticipation for news to filter through, but they have promised to take your holiday to new heights with a host of new innovative features to make you go wow.

I for one am excited, this will surely be a best seller

Over the last 6 months if not more I have noticed a huge demand in the popularity of a P&O cruise. Whether it’s the conveniency of skipping airports and sailing from Southampton, not having to worry about a fluctuating exchange rate as prices are all in GBP, or the security of knowing that you are sailing on a British cruise line, bookings on P&O cruises are increasing by the day

One thing I do get asked a lot from new cruises is what their ships are like, with 8 ships in their fleet each one offers something special

P&O oriana

For the adults amongst you let’s begin with the 3 adult only ships, something which is extremely popular with all ages who want to get away from it all without having to worry about children running around

Firstly the Arcadia a mid sized ship carrying 2094 passengers. This is a classic P&O vessel described as a combination of chic and classic cruising. She offers stylish décor with a relaxed feel so your holiday really is all about the sail and the destinations.

Unique features include exterior glass fronted lifts and an extensive onboard art collection with over 3000 pieces of art. The highly acclaimed chef Atul Kucher also has one of his restuarants Sindhu onboard for those special occasions when you feel you deserve a treat.

P&O arcadia sindhu_food_montage

Arcadia spends most of her Winters on her world cruise itinerary and Summers in Europe

Oriana has only recently been transformed into an adult only ship, a favourite with P&O passengers this seemed like the natural step and has just had a refit to improve the elegant atmosphere onboard. One of P&O’s smaller ships at 1880 passengers guests enjoy the friendliness of meeting fellow passengers and crew and seeing them on a regular basis, this is where firm friendships form.

Classic features of Oriana is by far her teak decks and tiered stern with a touch of an art deco feel, along side an open atrium with Tiffany glass ceiling and panoramic Crows nest bar.

P&O oriana dining

As a smaller sized vessel she can travel to destinations that others can’t which is why many loyal guests love this ship to always explore somewhere new.

Adonia has just been brought back into P&O’s fleet this year due to high demand, the smallest ship carrying 710 passengers she has a very intimate homely feel.

I would say these ships cater for seasoned cruisers who want to experience something new, for example you can sail down the Amazon which is a first for P&O, or sail around smaller Caribbean ports that you can’t reach on a larger ship.

P&O Adonia atrium

Adonia has a more traditional feel to her like old style cruising in a modern way, she has a grand staircase with wood panelling in the Atrium, but following a recent refit lighter furnishings have been used to give a brighter more modern feel.

One of the most popular, well known islands in the Caribbean is the beautiful exotic island of Jamaica.

Being the third largest island in the Caribbean (by land) there is plenty for cruise passengers to see and do here.

With the year-round sunshine, beautiful white sandy beaches and the laid back atmosphere, Jamaica is a place I would say everyone must visit at least once.

Whether its snorkelling, horseback riding along the beach, rafting, climbing the Dunns River falls, or just laying on a beautiful beach, you can find something for everyone on the Island.

Dunns River Falls
Dunns River Falls

There are four cruise ports in Jamaica; Ocho Rios, Montego Bay, Falmouth and Port Antonio. The most popular with smaller ships being Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. Just last week there were nine cruise ships docked on the same day in Jamaica in the four ports. This brought a staggering 20,000 cruise passengers on to the island in just one day. This is a record for the island. With more cruise ships scheduled over 2017-2018, hopefully they will break this record.

The last time I cruised, I docked in Falmouth, which is North on the island. As I was sailing on the Allure of the seas, which is a extremely large ship, this is the only port that is big enough for her to dock. This was then a 1 hour drive to Ocho Rios where I went rafting. AMAZING!!!!

Horseback Riding Tour
Horseback Riding Tour

You can check my Jamaica experience out here.

Of course language is the spoken language on the island, but you will find the majority of the locals will speak in Jamaican Patois (Patwa) with each other. The country has a lot of culture and history which I found so interesting. A tour guide once took me to Trelawny, and explained how the language was founded in Jamaica. This came back to the days of Slavery.

With many luxury hotels on the Island, you can also get day passes to try them out for the day if you wish.
