new ship

The world’s largest privately owned line, MSC cruises have recently celebrated their ten year 9 billion euro investment plan which will take 6 of the 11 new ships being built into service from June 2017 and November 2020.

This week saw the cutting of her first steel for the new Meraviglia –Plus ship which will be named the MSC Grandiosa. What name could be more suitable for this standard of Cruise ship which means magnificence and grandeur?

The 6,334 Meravigilia –Plus mega ship will be one of the two largest passenger cruise lines ever to be built in Europe.

The Meraviglia herself came into operation earlier this year and has had some very positive feedback. The Director of Cruise Club UK Mr Paul Edge who sailed this year on the Meraviglia was highly impressed with the facilities on-board for both adults and children and after witnessing the Yacht Club in person he said it made this class of ship reach even another level

One of the features on the new ship will be a custom built Carousel Lounge which will feature the world famous Cirque du Soleil. MSC who are also renowned for their luxury experience Yacht Club will also feature the very first Fine art museum at sea.

One thing that MSC like to pride themselves in is the protection of the environment. MSC concluded that their new ships will be at the forefront of environmental technology at sea. The features will include the latest hybrid exhaust gas cleaning systems and state of the art waste management and recycling capabilities as well as emission reducing energy and heat recovery systems and advanced wastewater treatment.

The sales and itineraries for the MSC Grandiosa are to be announced shortly

new-ship-339x369 P&O’s new ship which is to be launched in 2020 are giving the general public the chance to enter their suggestions in naming her.

The competition starts today July 10th 2017 with the winner to be announced next year.

The winner will receive two VIP places at the naming ceremony which is due to take place in spring 2020 and will at the same time be able to see their chosen name proudly emblazoned on the side of the ship.

Weighing 180,000 tons and enough room to accommodate 5,200 passengers this will be P&O’s largest ship within her fleet.

The new ship will be the first new launch in five years since the launch of the P&O Britannia back in 2015. Paul Ludlow who is the Senior Vice President for P&O cruises says ‘’ this new ship will play a pivotal role in redefining the brand and broadening our appeal”

Mr Ludlow also mentioned why it is important to have a name that will reflect the ships heritage as well as showcasing an array of new experiences she will have on offer.

He also added “The name is an inherent part of its personality and is something that will sail with it for life.”

With the use of LNG as its primary source of power it will be P&O’s most environmentally efficient ship reducing it exhaust emissions quite significantly

With the help of Eric Lanlard , Olly Smith, Jonathan Wilkes and P&O Azuras godmother and Strictly come dancing judge Darcey Bussell the Cruise line has made four short videos to accompany the competition and inspire the public to enter their names.

So now is your chance to be part of P&O cruises. To enter please click here

Now the cabin: allocated a duplex suite which covers two decks. A large living area and balcony complete with a whirlpool bath. Located on deck 12, aft of the ship. Due to the location the balcony is covered with glass (protecting you from the winds), so no sunbathing – but rather spectacular views, peace and tranquillity

Evening meal was a gala meal located in the Panorama restaurant on deck 6. The food and service was top notch with fine wines served to match.

The highlight of the evening was the private showing of the exclusive ‘Cirque Du Soleil’s’ first ever performance at sea. Located in the Carousel Lounge, which has been custom designed to accommodate the world famous circus. Spectacular special effects with some amazing jaw dropping moments, definitely a must on your list!

A must mention is the amusement park, fun for all ages. With Formula 1 racing cars, interactive cinema, flight simulator and a full size bowling alley – its thrills for all the family. Opposite is the Sportsplex idea for younger guests.

LED Dome, the longest LED Sky screen at sea

Up early in the morning from the night before and walking around the indoor promenade with the tranquil sights and sounds of birds lit up along the LED sky screen. This changes throughout the day and really is utterly impressive and the largest at sea
