The Western Mediterranean is considered to be one of the most diverse and unique cruising regions, spreading over two continents (Europe and Africa), this area boasts the artistic beauties of Italy, France and Spain whilst combining the Arabic culture in areas such as Morocco and Tunisia. These particular  itineraries are perfect for those interested in art and history, who also like to combine and  experience the areas most popular landmarks,  stunning beaches, cafes bars, boutique shops and traditional markets. Highlights include, the famous Las Ramblas, Barcelona, the cosmopolitan and thriving hub of this fantastic city. A visit to Capri, is a must from Sorrento or Naples

Royal Square, Barcelona

The Western Mediterranean as a cruising region, offers a spectrum of culture and arts, combined with beautiful beaches and a laid back atmosphere. Itineraries offered within this region include ports of call within, Spain, Italy and France, and sometimes include stops in Lisbon for Portugal, the Canary Islands, and Casablanca and Tangier for Morocco, and Gibralter

It was once considered best to visit the Western Mediterranean region during spring and the summer months, however cruise lines such as MSC and Costa are beginning to offer all year round itineraries within this area, with Barcelona and Marseilles (France),  still being included on the itinerary, they are now sailing further southwards towards Morocco and into the Canaries.

Some of the larger ships usually visit the bigger ports, including destinations, such as Barcelona, Rome and Florence. The vast majority of cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Holland America and Norwegian Cruise Line, tend to offer itineraries either starting in these ports, or featuring them on their itineraries

Costa Cruises and MSC Cruises are based from Italy, and can offer shorter cruise itineraries at much lower prices. For a more British feel, P&O Cruises and Cunard offer a variety of sailings, whilst the luxury cruise lines such as Azamara, Crystal, Silversea, Seabourn, Oceania and Regent Seven Seas offer itineraries to smaller ports of call such as Cannes, Capri and Portofino and often spend much longer in port.

Stay tuned for part 2 of my blog!!!

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to spend 131 night on board a cruise ship, sailing the globe? Well, imagine just how spectacular that would be on board an Intimate Luxury ship with Regent Seven Seas Cruise Line.

The beautiful Seven Seas Mariner cruise ship will be sailing the 131 night world cruise in 2020. This will be a takeover from the current ship, Navigator which is hosting the world voyages in 2018 and 2019.

The intimate ship will dry dock in spring 2018 to get ready for her world voyage. Passengers can sail round trip from San Francisco or Miami.

In June I was fortunate enough to be able to see Regents Seven Seas Explorer whilst she was docked in Liverpool, a number of agents were invited on board to experience what she has to offer. I have cruised with many other lines but this was my first experience of a six star ship.  Compared to other cruise ships the explorer is on a much smaller scale however I realised afterwards that this doesn’t compromise on luxury.  Here are some of the things which I was lucky enough to see on the day.

Chartreuse – A Parisian Experience at Sea

The lavish ambiance and epicurean delights found in Paris’ finest eateries will come to life aboard Seven Seas Explorer with a tantalizing new gourmet French specialty restaurant called Chartreuse. Featuring a classic French menu with a modern twist, Chartreuse will evoke memories of a chic Parisian fine dining restaurant perfected only by the finest French wines from boutique vineyards of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and the Rhône and Loire Valleys and a menu that features dishes expertly prepared using both classic and modern techniques for a multiple course celebration of French gastronomy.

Using only the finest ingredients, the menu is highlighted by epicurean delights including hand-cut Charolais steak tartare in a hazelnut-Dijon emulsion topped with Perlita caviar d’Aquitaine, roasted Cévennes rack of lamb with rosemary-mint persillade and sugar snap pea sauce, and poached Brittany blue lobster tail glazed with caramelized lobster roe butter on a bed of Sologne white asparagus and Romanesco. Delectable desserts include a frozen Chartreuse parfait with almond crumble and classic savarin cake made with aged Martinique rum and topped with vanilla cream.

Pacific Rim

A dramatic new Pan-Asian specialty restaurant, Pacific Rim, will join the eclectic array of gourmet dining options aboard Seven Seas Explorer. As the third specialty restaurant, it will feature a diverse array of delightfully prepared Pan-Asian dishes, to be savoured in an elegantly appointed dining room whose design takes inspirational cues from a variety of Asian cultures, such as a Tibetan prayer wheel, lotus shaped windows, traditional Japanese rain chains and customary Chinese screens all melded harmoniously together into a singular concept ideal for the restaurant’s Pan-Asian fare.

To complement the stunning décor, Pacific Rim’s chefs created a delectable menu of Pan-Asian creations that celebrate the culinary traditions of Asia. Let our team of chefs delight you with delicious dishes such as grilled Korean barbecue lamb chops, wok-fried beans, eryngii mushroom and gochujang dressing.

Pacific Rim

Star billing in the Compass Rose, the flagship restaurant of our fleet – apart from the gourmet cuisine and service – has to go to the stunning chandelier made from a cascade of aqua-blue glass ‘teardrops’ that brings the feel of the ocean into the venue, beautifully complement with rich woods and light marble stone and mother of pearl in light shades of blue, white, gold and silver. Compass Rose delights with an elegantly refined atmosphere and transitions from refreshing natural light during the day to a romantic ice blue lighting theme at night. This is the perfect setting for you to enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner, where the menu features an exceptional variety of Continental cuisine.

Le Veranda/Sette Mari

Inspired by the views of the Italian Riviera, the ambiance of La Veranda is one of everyday glamour. Rich blues and whites, contrasted with terrazzo floors and teak wood accents adorn the interior spaces, creating a stylish and spacious al fresco casual dining area, replete with comfortable cushioned seating and striped awnings that allow the breeze to flow through. In the evenings, La Veranda transforms into the warm and inviting Sette Mari at La Veranda, where tables are candlelit to match the star-filled skies. The menu also transforms into a tantalizing journey of alluring antipasto, perfect homemade pastas, enticing main courses and desserts hailing from all over Italy. Dining alfresco is simply divine

Prime 7

True classic in every sense, the Prime 7 restaurant aboard Seven Seas Explorer personifies luxury at every turn. Handsomely decorated with ingenious uses of glass, metal and granite, you will feel as if you have arrived at an iconic members-only club. Enjoy a cocktail at the bar before being taken to your personal banquette. And after savouring a succulent filet mignon or a mouth-watering côte de boeuf, delight in a digestif and lively conversation with fellow guests in the comfort of supple leather wing-back chairs. And, the library, located to the side of the restaurant, doubles as a private dining room for those in search of the ultimate in exclusivity.

The cafe

Visit The Café on Deck 5 mid-ship to enjoy complimentary coffee drinks prepared by our baristas, as well as delicious pastries, gourmet sandwiches and homemade cookies. Additionally, international newspapers and news magazines are made available. This venue to your destination to relax, meet other guests and enjoy coffee and snacks throughout the day.

Onboard entertainment

The culinary arts kitchen

In a first for the Regent fleet, Seven Seas Explorer® hosts a new Culinary Arts Kitchen. With all the style and glamour of a prestigious cooking school in France, our new state-of-the art cooking stations have all the ingredients you need to expand your culinary skills from your own personal cooking stations, stainless steel sinks and a comprehensive range of cooking essentials.

Featuring more than a dozen unique classes gain hands-on training and personal instruction and learn from a wide arrange of topics including healthy cooking, fish and shellfish preparation, perfect food and wine pairings for entertaining, delectable mini-desserts, high-heat grilling and classes inspired by the destinations you’re visiting.

Meridian Lounge

A new, elegant entertainment venue hosting live musical performances and is just steps away from the entrance to our Constellation Theatre, ideal for those pre- or post-show cocktails.

Observation lounge

The Observation Lounge brings the opulence and indulgences of the Art Deco era to life, with rich mahogany wood columns, heavy leather chairs, deep blue fabrics and elegant flooring provide the Explorer Lounge with an inviting feel.

Explorer Lounge

Step into the Explorer Lounge for a glass of Champagne and you’re in a country club-style setting with rich mahogany woods that are complemented with leather chairs and blue fabrics.

Constellation theatre

The two-tiered Constellation Theatre pays homage to the ornate show palaces of Hollywood’s golden age. Before the curtain rises, you will already be enveloped by the soft, warm glow of your table-top Murano glass lamps and your comfortable cabaret-style seats.

Canyon ranch spa

The new Canyon Ranch SpaClub is a lavishly appointed spa devoted to relaxation and personal enrichment. Situated on deck five, it will rival the finest land-based spas and exude luxury befitting Seven Seas Explorer. Debuting at Canyon Ranch SpaClub will be a selection of ultra-luxurious treatments developed by Canyon Ranch in partnership with lifestyle and beauty experts, Red Flower, and premiering exclusively on Seven Seas Explorer before expanding across the fleet.

Let the stress and toxins be purged and washed away in one of the eight fully equipped treatment rooms. What’s more the Canyon Ranch SpaClub area boasts with a wide range state of the art spa facilities and features that will exceed your expectations.

The suites
