So as you can see from my previous blog the sail away party out of Barcelona was amazing. We headed back to our cabin after the party and our luggage had arrived. I would definitely recommend having anything you may need for the first few hours on-board the ship packed into your hand luggage as there can be a good few hours go by before you receive your luggage into your stateroom. Some people had prohibited item messages in there stateroom meaning they had items confiscated until the end of the cruise. The main thing to be aware of is that irons are strictly prohibited as they are a health and safety risk but hair straighteners are fine. We had an inside cabin up on deck 10 which was ideal for the three of us as and literally Windjammer (buffet style restaurant) is on the deck above so ideal for breakfast in the morning. We had a large double bed and my 6 year old daughter was in the bunk above us with a rail attached so she couldn’t fall out onto us. In the cabin there was also a curtain that could be pulled across, so if we were still awake when my daughter was in bed we could pull this across and watch T.V without disturbing her. It is always nice to have an ocean view or balcony cabin as a luxury but we do not find this necessary as we hardly spent any time in the cabin itself. We had an amazing stateroom attendant called Clever or Mr Clever to my 6yr old! He was south American and could not do enough to make our stay the best it could be. Clever provided us with such useful information about the ports of call and swapped stories about his own children and family life back home as well as looking after us incredibly. We all formed a strong attachment to him including my 6yr old whom he called Princess. We formed a lot of attachments to be honest on-board the ship. We found all of the staff so helpful and happy and easy to talk to and the cruise director was amazing and clearly very good at her job!

Freedom of the seas has everything a family could wish for from the ice skating rink to the rock climbing wall and the cinema there is just so much to do!! Especially during school holidays as they have even more events for the kids such as the DreamWorks parade that we were luckily enough to see. The parade was amazing so much going on in front of us, as well as above us as the characters danced through the promenade.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines recently announced their newest addition to their fleet, Spectrum of the Seas, and is set to wow passengers as the first ULTRA Quantum Class.

With the Quantum of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas and the Anthem of the Seas already wowing passengers on the High Seas, Royal Caribbean are adding another mega ship to their collection. Named as the Spectrum of the Seas, the 4,180 passenger ship will be the fourth ship to join the Quantum class of ships and will take to the water in 2019.

RC_Aquatheatre[1]

Just like her sisters the Quantum of the Seas and the Ovation of the seas, she is destined for the Chinese Market. Royal Caribbean are set to delight passengers in Asia Pacific area with the amazing ship.

Facilities on board the new ship have still as of yet not been released but I am sure Royal Caribbean will raise the bar with this new Mega Ship.

With Bumper Cars, Sky Diving, Ice Skating, Zip Lines, Carousels, Flow riders, Robotic Bartenders Water Slides, Interchanging restaurants and much more on other ships in their fleet, Imagine what they have in store for this new class ship?

Royal Caribbean are not the biggest cruise operator in the world, but they do operate the largest individual cruise line by passenger capacity and they also sail the largest cruise ships in the world. Having sailed numerous times on many of their ships, Royal Caribbean are (in my opinion) one of the best cruise lines on the market for couples and families. Something for everyone on board!

Royal Caribbean are set to announce more details about their new ship, so check back to keep up to date with the latest Ultra Quantum Class ship.

The Independence of the Seas is undergoing a major face lift, adding some fantastic new features.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line are well known for doing things on a large scale including building the largest ship in the world, the Harmony of the Seas.

As of summer 2018, the Independence of the Seas cruise ship, one of three in the Freedom Class of ships, will offer some first-at-sea stuff on board to passengers.

With a multi-million pound makeover, she is set to blow your minds! Already home to many activities on board, including the Flow Rider, Rock Climbing Wall, Ice Skating, H20 Water zone and large cinema screen on top deck, she will be introducing exciting activities such as Laser Tag, An Escape Room, Trampoline park and a couple of water slides!

Current H20 Zone on board Independence of the Seas

Laser Tag will be fun for all guests on board. Children and Adults alike can play a game of Laser Tag to brighten up there days. Bright Colours will make this a great experience for all.

The Escape room will allow passengers to try themselves and their brains to see if they have what it takes to Escape.

Bounce anyone? It is one of my favourite activities and I am sure most of you enjoy jumping on a Trampoline. With fitness and fun combined, this is a great sport for family and friends.

Adding to the exciting H20 Zone on board for children, there are going to be two wild water slides offered for children AND ADULTS!!!

If she didn’t float your boat before (excuse the pun) she certainly will now. The Independence of the Seas has so much to offer on board for all guests. What are you waiting for? Secure your place on board now.

What is the first thing you do when you embark a cruise ship?

When I embark my cruise, the first thing I do is head straight up to the top deck by the pool and grab a cocktail. I will generally sit and stay here for an hour or so, taking in the new surroundings and people on board. In this time my husband has usually made his way to the buffet restaurant to get a head start on the “eating” week ahead. After an hour or so relaxing and checking out what the top deck has to offer, we make our way down the ship, deck-by-deck. This gives us a chance to see some of the ship before the rest of the passengers are on board.

When we are finished with having a walk around, if our cabin is ready we will go and check it out. Then we will head back up to the top deck to soak up more sun and cocktails.

I am sure most of you agree, one thing I hate to have to do when I embark is go to the muster drill. I feel as though my holiday has just got going and then It is put on hold for a very short while for the drill. Sitting there waiting for the other passengers to arrive at the drill is almost as annoying! I try to be the last one there, so I am the first out. And, lets be honest, the Drill is not the most entertaining to keep your attention.

This is why I think Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd are brilliant to have introduced an eight-minute video for their muster drill, which is designed to bring some fun to the dreaded drill on board!

shutterstock_18820957

All three brands; Azamara Club Cruises, Celebrity Cruise Line & Royal Caribbean Cruise Line will all be introducing the new video across their fleets. Azamara Club Cruises and Celebrity Cruise Line have already been showing the video on their ships, RCCL will introduce on their ships this month.

Named as “Operation: Little Bear” – The new muster video is a short film following the adventures of a secret agent who has been sent on board a cruise ship to intercept a gold teddy before it gets in to the hands of the wrong person. The agent on board has an off ship partner who supports her and helps her navigate around the ship and all of the safety procedures she will need to follow along the way.

According to the Cruise Company, the film will dramatize the do’s and don’ts of the safety on board in an entertaining way and promote the recall of safety messages.

So, lets hope the muster drill is no longer dreaded and is more welcomed by passengers.

Nicknamed as the “Big Easy”, New Orleans is a Louisiana city located on the Mississippi River, close to the Gulf of Mexico.

For the first time in three years, Royal Caribbean will be docking the Vision of the Seas cruise ship here for the 2018/19 winter season, offering seven night sailings to the Bahamas and Mexico.

Prior to moving to New Orleans in December 2018, the ship will sail two 16-night Panama Canal voyages from Miami to Los Angeles, and then from Los Angeles to New Orleans. This will also be the first time in 3 years that Royal Caribbean will offer Panama Canal sailings.

Well known for its vibrant live-music and twenty-four-seven nightlife, New Orleans has lots of offer. The festival spirit will be in full swing when they sail the winter season, with the late-winter carnival renowned for its raucous costume parades and street parties. The French quarter is a great place to hang out with jazz music sounding all day and all night long. Be sure to try the cuisine whilst there, as the city is French-Founded, this has a huge influence over the food.

Music is a Huge part of the New Orleans culture, with a huge thanks to legend Louis Armstrong who was a native of the Big Easy, and now has a public park named after him; Louis Armstrong Park. New Orleans International Airport is named New Orleans Louis Armstrong Airport.

It could be that famous play writer Thomas Lanier “Tennessee” Williams III said it better than anyone: “America has only three cities; New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans.” Even the Bright lights of Las Vegas and the Sky High buildings of New York do not compare to this unique city. New Orleans is a place like no other with a must see SkyLine for everyone visiting.

New Orleans, Louisiana, Skyline

This is a place on my bucket list that I will definitely be visiting and to combine with my favourite cruise line of all time is a must for me. So, if your sailing on the Vision of the Seas from New Orleans, I may see you there.

Disney Cruise Lines introduced lifeguards onboard their ships in 2013. Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines followed suit and by June this year (2017) all their ships will have lifeguards

Now Norwegian Cruise Lines have just announced by mid 2018 all their ships will add a lifeguard service.

shutterstock_595217096

Brilliant news for parents with children or for those adults who aren’t water savvy!

Since 2015 Norwegian Cruise Lines had crew members acting as pool monitors, however they aren’t trained lifesavers. The new lifeguards will be fully trained and certified by the American Red Cross.

Family pools will be monitored during scheduled pool hours

This summer Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Epic will start this service onboard

Free swim vests for adults and children will also be available. These can be collected from the towel station onboard.

For those who haven’t sailed with Norwegian Cruise Lines, their Aqua Parks are brilliant fun for all the family, especially kids! From the tropical-themed pool on Norwegian Epic to Spongebob Square Pants & Friends themed splash area. If slides are your kind of thing then you’ve hit the jackpot with Norwegian. Take a free fall and drop at the speed of 4Gs or race side by side on The Whip.

Breaking news from Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean……..

On board credit, offered as part of a promotional campaign, can now be spent before you even step on board your ship!

This is fantastic news as previously any on board credit given could only be used to make on board purchases, once on board the ship.

In my opinion this is a great benefit from Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean, I do not know of any other cruise line to offer this, and gives them a unique edge over their competitors.

A lot of guests like to use their on board credit to book shore excursions on board and I sometimes wonder if the most popular tours in St Petersburg, for example, are available once on board due to limited spaces. No worries on this count now as any excursions can be booked in advance using the credit!

The speciality dining packages are great value for money, which is another popular way to spend on board credit. By pre booking these online it means you can reserve your chosen restaurant, time and date. I have left this to do on board the ship in the past, to use my on board credit, and found the most popular times and restaurants already booked.

For those of you with Elite or Elite Plus Captains Club status, where you get discount on internet packages, you can now pre book these on your cruise planner and utilise any promotional on board credit to offset the amount.

All in all this policy change will be welcomed with open arms I am sure and leaves you free to fully enjoy your first day on board rather than having to sort out these finer details!

Below is an example of how your on board credit will show, once you are logged in to your cruise planner, to give you an idea of what to look out for.

On board credit celeb

Note; Azamara Club Cruises are hoping to follow suit, they are just working out logistics on this and have not given any indication on time scale as of yet.

Happy pre booking everyone and bravo to Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean!
