Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean are making big changes to their private island paradise of Coco Cay in the Bahamas!

The new design for the island will be ready for Autumn 2019 and there are some fantastic enhancements to experience for all ages. The main features are below but take a look at the video to bring it all to life!

You can have a fantastic view over the island, 450 foot up in the air, from the helium balloon!

Relax at Coco Cay Beach Club which will feature the only over-water cabanas in the Bahamas! ( This is where you would find me! )

The island will also have another first, the largest wave pool in the Caribbean! These wave pools are always so much fun!

The water park on the island looks fantastic! The ‘Daredevils Tower’ will have 7 slides, including the fully vertical Screeching Serpent, the 135 foot tall Daredevils Peak ( Which is the tallest water slide in North America! ), the coiling Green Mamba or have a race with a friend on the twin Dueling Demon drop slides or the Manta Raycers.

The island also boasts the Caribbeans largest freshwater pool. If you are looking to relax and spend some quality time with friends or family in one of the coves, or even your own private cabana, this could be the area for you!

If you would like to visit Coco Cay next year on your Royal Caribbean cruise, give me a call or drop me an email and I will find an itinerary to suit you!

So you may know from my previous blogs from last year that i was planning to revisit my favourite ship so far Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas. Just to recap last year me and my family went on The freedom of the Seas sailing from Barcelona around the med and i fell in love with the ship & staff on-board and generally the whole experience from the food to the service & entertainment was exactly what we wanted out of our family holiday and more. When the holiday had come to end we swiftly made the decision that we wanted to try and book on the same ship for our 2018 holiday.

On arrival home and back to work & school for us i started to look at the possible itinerary’s for 2018 school holidays to see what i could find and started to put together an idea that has now turned into our dream holiday! During the 6 week summer holiday period Freedom is doing 7 night Caribbean sailings from the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Given my daughters age (nearly 7 now) we have never wanted to do anything that involves long haul flights, therefore we have always stuck to the Med for our holidays and the furthest we have ventured as a family is Egypt. After a few lengthy family discussions we decided to book the cruise only knowing the flights were not available yet and decided on the below itinerary.

FREEDOM OF THE SEAS Itinerary

Date Port Arrival Boarding Departure Remark
Sat 25 Aug SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO 20:30 Docked
Sun 26 Aug PHILIPSBURG, ST. MAARTEN 08:00 17:00 Docked
Mon 27 Aug BASSETERRE, ST KITTS NEVIS 08:00 17:00 Docked
Tue 28 Aug ST. JOHNS, ANTIGUA 08:00 17:00 Docked
Wed 29 Aug CASTRIES, ST. LUCIA 09:00 18:00 Docked
Thu 30 Aug BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS 08:00 17:00 Docked
Fri 31 Aug CRUISING 00:00 00:00 Cruising
Sat 01 Sep SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO 06:00 Docked

As you can see what a beautiful Itinerary 6 Caribbean islands out of a 7 night sailing! So perfect ship and amazing itinerary now onto the tricky bit! Building the holiday into a package to include flights, accommodation and transfers. Please see my next blog and find out how i have pieced the holiday together to make up my dream holiday.

Barcelona, Spain is the capital of Spain’s Catalonia area, and is considered to be one of Spain’s, or even Europe’s, most cosmopolitan and beautiful cities. Examples of this, is the incredible architecture, where the modern art, combines with the dark, yet equally beautiful gothic era, with Barcelona’s very own architect, Antoni Gaudi, examples of his works are infused within the city, one of the most famous of his works, the Sagrada Familia, is an absolute must see, for any visitor. Barcelona boasts a vibrant and beautiful old town, which is the heart of this cosmopolitan city. This area is home to many museums, cafes and bars, teamed with boutiques and shops. The famous Las Ramblas, runs through the heart of Barcelona, and is fringed with shops, restaurants, bars and is also home to the beautiful, historic opera house. Barcelona has many side streets, and historic squares that offer the chance to experience true Spanish tapas, washed down with a famous Spanish drink, sangria. Barcelona, is a major departure port for many cruise lines, and is quite often featured on many itineraries, with many passengers choosing to extend their holiday, by adding on a hotel stay, either before or after their cruise

Visit two islands with one port of call when your next cruise docks in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Being the most southern islands in the Caribbean, the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago lies just 6 miles off of the North-East coast of Venezuela, South America.

Parlatuvier Bay, Tobago
Parlatuvier Bay, Tobago

They have two seasons each year: Dry Season, which is the first five months of the year, with the Wet Season being the remaining seven months of the year.

The two ports which are open to cruise ships are; Port of Spain in Trinidad and Port of Scarborough in Tobago.  Being just a twenty minute ferry ride apart, you can plan your visit to whichever of the Twin islands quite easily, due to the very frequent ferries that operate each day. The cost is also very minimal, at just £6 per adult, each way.

Having visited Tobago myself, it is a haven for beach lovers. They offer stunning, relaxing beaches with local crafts and food for sale. They have small markets close to beaches giving you the option to browse for souvenirs at your own freewill. Be sure to try the fruit here, its cheap and so fresh! Just what you need on a hot summers day in the Caribbean.

Cumana Bay, Trinidad
Cumana Bay, Trinidad

Trinidad is of course renowned for their Carnival which is one of THE most attended carnivals in the world, taking place February each year. Here you can witness the most Extravagant-barely there costumes, vibrant colours, dancing, music, food and some of the most beautiful women on the island. Known as “The Original Carnival” it is certainly something to witness if you are sailing here when it is on.

So if you are sailing into one of the beautiful twin islands of Trinidad & Tobago on your next cruise, and you want to see the sister island, take a ferry and explore! Be sure to check your “All Aboard” time, you don’t want to miss the boat!
