Esperance – Western Australia
The second installment of my blog detailing the delights of cruising Australia.
Head south of Perth and you reach Esperance. This is one of my favourite places in Australia. With a Mediterranean climate all year round what’s not to like!
I actually flew from Perth to Esperance, however if you’re arriving by cruise you pre book a day trip or arrange prior to departure. My first experience was a scenic drive, a 38km tourist loop called the Great Ocean Drive. It takes in some of the most beautiful coastal scenery Australia has to offer. There are plenty of viewing stops along the way too.
Esperance roughly translated is French for hope
Famous for a total of 4 National Parks around the area. The nearest and best is Cape Le Grand, complete with fine white sand it squeaks under foot! Check out Lucky Bay where the kangaroos come to the beach to drink and sunbathe.
Speaking of Lucky Bay it is home to the Recherche Archipelago, a total of 110 islands (nicknamed Bay of Isles). Take a day drip boat tour to experience the local wildlife. Between June & October southern right whales and hump back whales come to the bay to give birth. This can also be seen from land (they come that close)
Ideal for beach lovers
Off the beaten track
Sleep out under the stars
Four wheel drive safaris are an amazing way to experience the National Parks
