This is part of a series of blogs discussing the many places to visit on an Australian cruise. Starting with the port of Perth!.
I think of Australia and it makes me smile! – WHY???? Because it’s the best place on the planet. When I get an inquiry for an Australian Cruise I could talk for hours, this Country oozes personality and each State and their Cities are so different!
Over the coming weeks I will be blogging about the major ports and attraction in Australia, from cities to top tips and interesting facts…. ENJOY!
Port of Perth – Western Australia
It’s the sunniest of all Australian States. Situated in the Indian Ocean, expect a Mediterranean climate.
On the banks of the River Swan rises the City of Perth. For the best panoramic views head over to KINGS PARK, a huge parkland complete with treetop walks, indigenous cultural tours and much more. It’s one of the biggest inner city parks in the world. (Yes bigger that New York’s Central Park)
Head over to The Bell Tower overlooking Swan River, it’s one of Perth’s unique attractions. Home to the Swan Bells the world’s largest musical instrument. Climb to the top for amazing views, complete with glass floor. Also from here you can jump on the free bus around the city.
Perth has 19 beaches
Just a short ferry ride from Perth is Rottnest Island. With 63 beaches, 20 bays it’s the ideal place to swim/dive/snorkel. The Island is car fee, best to get around by bike. Also home to the Quokka. (Mini marsupial only found in Western Australia)
Top Tip: Visit Freemantle (30 minutes from Perth). I took a wine tasting boat from Barrack Street (near to Bell Tower) taking in dolphins, the stunning million $ houses and the scenery is pretty amazing! Once in Freemantle check out the quirky shops, buzzing markets and casual street cafes. They have a redeveloped fishing harbor with some of the best fresh local seafood. It is full of historic buildings and you can wander for hours.
We all know Australia is renowned for the production of fine wines. Visit Swan Valley which is a short ferry ride up the Swan River. Indulge in cellar door tastings. Or take the driving option and do the food and wine trail which stretches 32 kilometres.
Also worth experiencing is Perth’s many museums, art galleries and shopping centers.
