This is the question on everyone’s lips when it come to cruising! I am asked this on a regular basis so this blog should help you decide if drinks packages on cruise ships are worth it for you.
Most cruise lines now offer some form of package; whether it be as an early booking offer, included as standard or as an extra to add to your booking. This is great value if you can get it included in the price but each line do vary in price to add this as an extra.
The main bonus of taking a drinks package is that you don’t have to worry about the bar bill mounting up, as we all know it can! Even just a few soft drinks, your morning latte, a pre dinner cocktail, wine during dinner plus an evening aperitif can rack up quite an amount per day, especially once the average 15% gratuity is added. When you have a drinks package the gratuity is included so you don’t have to think about the cost of the tip on top of your bar purchase.
I have put together a handy guide for the most popular cruise lines so you can judge for yourself, as they are all slightly different. This is just a guide as the prices can fluctuate!
I am just concentrating on the all inclusive packages including alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks as these tend to be the most popular. Other packages can of course be purchased to just include soft drinks and coffees.
FRED OLSEN – This can be pre booked from £10 per person per day.
COSTA CRUISES – I find this one to be exceptional value for money, starting from £21 per person day. This depends on the ship with Costa, the Neo Collection ships start from £23 per person per day.
MSC CRUISES – As with Costa Cruises this is fantastic value, starting from £22 per person per day.
ROYAL CARIBBEAN, CELEBRITY CRUISES AND NCL – These are all around the same sort of price for the all inclusive package which starts from $55 per person per day.
CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES AND HOLLAND AMERICA – This is a slightly different format for the drinks package. You receive 15 drinks per person per day, alcoholic and non alcoholic, with prices starting from $45 per person per day.
PRINCESS CRUISES – Slightly higher than the others listed, starting from $57 per person per day.
The cruise lines listed below include certain drinks as standard in the cruise fare;
AZAMARA CLUB CRUISES – All soft drinks, standard branded spirits, house wine, beers and speciality teas and coffees.
REGENT SEVEN SEAS AND SILVERSEA – All soft drinks, speciality teas and coffees, champagne, beer, wine and spirits.
SEABOURN – Open bar to also include fine wines and lunch and dinner.
You may be wondering why CUNARD and P&O CRUISES are missing from the above lists… At present they are not offering an all inclusive drinks package. You can however purchase soft drinks packages, coffee cards and wine packages on board.
I hope you found this informative!
