Ever thought of visiting Paradise but thought it was just a dream, endlessly flicked through travel magazines and thought wow one day I would love to go there…..well now its much easier than you think. Cruise Club UK’s Marcia explores the wonders of Indian Ocean cruise ports starting with the islands of Mauritius.
Mauritius in the Indian Ocean is one of the world’s most beautiful places, pristine white sands, crystal clear blue seas and vast forests. Its a multicultural island taking inspiration from many countries and cultures with many things to see and do. Combine this with an Indian Ocean cruise and you can also add a visit to the Seychelles, Madagascar and Reunion Island just to name a few.
Whilst you’re there take advantage and see as much of the Islands and Atolls as you possibly can, as perhaps this will be your only opportunity to experience such beauty. Imagine Madagascar, where you can visit one of their largest National Parks within a rain forest and a Unesco World Heritage site. Or how about a boat trip to Iranja, according to Costa Cruises this is one of the most beautiful Atolls in the Indian Ocean, there are 2 islands connected by a strip of coral sand, sounds idyllic. In Nosy bay you can explore the island in a 4×4 and visit the gigantic Sacred tree, people travel from all over to visit this religious spot, you literally enter inside its trunk. How amazing does that sound?
In the Seychelles you have Mahe which is one of the world’s smallest capitals, visit Robinson Crusoe Island or even be lucky enough to see the islands giant tortoises
Diego Suarez bay is the 3rd largest in the world followed only by Sydney and Rio de Janeiro. This is perfect for all you photographers with its immense beauty, just take in all your beautiful surroundings, or snorkel for underwater amazement.
Tamatave is a small town for those that love shopping, wandering round little streets and markets and picking up trinkets and goodies that are the perfect memento from your visit. Or you can visit the old 19th Century fortress of Mahavelona in Malagasy or even a Lemur zoo
Finally in St Denis you can travel up to the volcano Piton de la Fournaise some 2300m above sea level .The most stunning view is offered by the Plaine des Sables, covering a wide area of black and red scoria which gives an almost lunar landscape effect. Reunion Island shows that it is a tropical island unlike any other islands with so much to see.
Cruise on board the newly refurbished Costa Neo Classica and have a holiday of a lifetime. The itinerary is 14 nights with some even choosing to extend their stay and add on nights in Mauritius. The Neo fleet with Costa is all about slow cruising, so there is no set dining, no formal evenings just very relaxed where you can take your time without rushing taking advantage of the longer time in ports.
See below for a video from our You Tube page for more details, it gives you an insight into what the ship is about
The Indian ocean will give you a unique holiday. The contrast of colors set in the turquoise waters combined with the tranquility of their shores all enhance the islands uniqueness, where past and present seamlessly mix together, offering an experience that will compel you to return to its shores time and time again. Your visit will be one you will never forget
