Our MD has recently returned from his cruise on board the latest and most innovative ship from MSC cruise line, which is named as the MSC Meraviglia. This is the largest and newest ship in their fleet, offering guests more on board facilities than ever before.
After taking the short flight from Manchester to Milan Malpensa, they began their 2 hour 15 minute transfer through the Italian region of Piedmont, to the port of Genoa where they were embarking the ship. They then arrived along side what can only be described as the “Magnificent Meraviglia”. The cruise line describe this newest ship as the 8th Wonder of the World.
Having done 46 cruises, our MD Mr. Edge, said this was by far the most enjoyable for him. Here are his reasons why.
The theatre on board is purpose built to cater for their unique partnership with the world leading entertainers Cirque Du Soleil is something all guests must see. With two different shows on Alternative nights, be sure not to miss out and book your show on one of the High Tech interactive screens around the ship.
They felt privileged to sail on this ship as Grandma, Granddad and young Granddaughter with much on offer for all. He is highly recommending this ship, especially in the holiday periods for a Multi-Generational family.
As seen on Jane MacDonald’s cruise show, he emulated her journey to some fantastic places like Naples, Messina, Valletta, Barcelona and Marseille. Whilst sailing from Naples to Messina, Giglio Island and the Island of Giannutri is visible. Whilst visiting Naples, he advises a must see is the old world of Pompeii. Having being covered by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD79, the city has “frozen” the way of life of the city at this time, making it a unique place in the world. Naples is also where the Italians got their love of Pizza, as they created it in honour of Queen Margherita of Savoy.
Tech Spec for Tech Geeks:
- Meraviglia in Italian, translates to Wonder in English
- 315 Meters Long
- 65 Meters High
- 171,598 Gross tonnage
- 1540 crew members
- 3.5 million man hours of work to build
The ship is a technological masterpiece which is packed full of extraordinary features including the central promenade which is a “Two-Deck” high promenade inside the ship which is 96 meters in length. One of the most spectacular things about the promenade is the LED Dome, an entire ceiling that changes with lots of different visuals.
It is the longest LED Dome at sea, measuring a whopping 480 sq. meters. Constantly transmitting different views including starry night skies, sunrises, events, vistas and much more. The promenade is a great place to relax and take in the forever changing ceiling.
Filled with boutiques and restaurants, the promenade has something for everyone including an amusement area which is connected to an outdoor water park.
Drinks anyone? Be sure to take the drinks package. With a selection of over 24 Red/White/Rosé wines and Prosecco, all wines are served per the glass but invariably when you are at dinner, the rest of the bottle will be left with you. There is also an English pub on board called the Brass Anchor that offers 12 beers on draft as well as 9 different beertails. Passengers at the pub can also choose from many Lager, Craft Beer, Ale, Pilsner, Stout, Abbey, Cider, Light, Special, Alcohol-Free and Hefeweizen. (also a great place to grab some fish and chips!!) If you fancy Whisky, Vodka or a Gin you can get plenty of choice here too. If you decide against the drinks package, drink prices on board are very reasonable compared with many other mainstream cruise lines.
Embarking: Is made very simple and quick. You will present just your ID/Passport with your cruise ticket and will receive your cruise card in return. You then have 48 hours to register your credit card at one of the various interactive points around the ship.
Mr Edge was extremely impressed with how beautiful the cabins are appointed and also with the exceptional service his stateroom attendant had provided throughout the entire 7 night sailing.
If its a special occasion they have many different offers for speciality dining whilst on board.
Kids will never be bored on the Magnificent Meraviglia with so much on offer for them! The first Helicopter Simulator and Formula One Simulator at sea is just a start. They have the water park and the kids clubs also. His gorgeous granddaughter was so happy to be in the kids clubs and joined in for all activities and even gave the sing song a go in Italian. Now don’t worry about the children not speaking English, because most of them do speak English.
