British billionaire Richard Branson has done it all from a record label, an airline, his own private island and even flying people to space, and now he is adding to the Virgin family by introducing Virgin Cruises.
The new cruise line will build three new cruise ships, one home porting in Miami to sail the Caribbean and the other two are yet a mystery as to where in the world they will be sailing. A five year contract between the cruise line and the port of Miami has been signed, with the option of an extra five years.
We will see the first of the new ships launching in early 2020. No name has yet been confirmed for the ships, but the first will weigh 110,000 ton and will carry 2,860 passengers on board. The identical fleetmates will arrive in 2021 and 2022.
Branson has some of the best people on the job, with Tom McAlpin as the President of Virgin Cruises. He was once the president of Disney Cruise line and World of ResidenSea.
Virgin Cruises ships will be built around the needs of the customers and they are asking people for their ideas and feedback, so they can create the perfect cruise holiday. Lets hope its something special that’s born! They say they will be “shaking up” the cruise industry to create the cruise holiday that passengers will love year in and year out.
I have flown with Virgin Atlantic on a number of times (internationally) and they are a brilliant airline. I have always been treated great and had a wonderful experience on board. I will definitely be trying out these new cruises, only 4 more years to wait!!
I await further information from this new cruise line. Be sure to keep checking back because as soon as I know any further details, I will let you know too.
