Our featured itinerary is on board the Celebrity Equinox which is one of the Solstice class ships with Celebrity Cruises. As the brand states, modern luxury, is just what you will get on board.
The ship itself will accommodate 2850 passengers at full occupancy and was the first of the Solstice class ships to launch in 2009. The ship is made up of over 75% balcony cabins with the cabins themselves being around 15% larger than industry standard. This for me is a great bonus as the balcony offers are fantastic due to the amount of them on board. I always take a balcony cabin, especially in the Caribbean, as I love taking my morning coffee out there and waking up to the beautiful surroundings and getting some fresh air. At the moment if you take a balcony on this particular cruise you can choose to include either FREE Drinks, FREE Gratuities or FREE $300 on board credit so it is well worth it just to get one of these offers!
On top deck is the Lawn Club where you can take a leisurely picnic or have a game of boules which is an innovation exclusively to Celebrity Cruises.
If fantastic service and food are what you are looking for then this is definitely one for you. I visited the Equinox on an overnight agents trip when she was first launched and I was extremely impressed with all aspects of the ship from the chic public spaces to the attentive staff and amazing food! I have never seen such choice in a buffet restaurant on board, I even had eggs benedict in there for breakfast, WOW! The steak I had in the main restaurant for dinner just melted, cooked to perfection in my eyes.
The Theatre on board has great Broadway style performances, as you would expect, along with various other bars and lounges each with their own different entertainment from pianists to quizzes or just for a quiet drink to wind down after a busy day sightseeing. There really is something to suit every mood on board! If you want to relax further, head up to the spa for a massage or a sauna and steam.
The Caribbean is such a beautiful place to sail around, especially in our winter time as the weather is perfect out there, lots of sunshine and warm weather which we all need to beat the winter time blues.
I have visited nearly all the islands on this itinerary and it is hard to pick a favourite! Below is an overview of a few of my favourite things to do in port;
ST KITTS – I took a trip around the island as it is very lush and green with beautiful scenery. We stopped at a particular place and the guide pointed out that on one side of the island was the Caribbean Ocean and the other side the Atlantic. You really could see the difference in colour between the two and was a spectacular sight.
ST MAARTEN – There is a beach here which is at the end of the runway! It is a must see sight! On my first visit I didn’t realise this fact and was quite surprised to be lying on the beach when suddenly a huge aircraft came in to land and felt like it was just metres above me. Other beaches are available if this is a little close for comfort!
ST THOMAS – This island is the best place to pick up some tax free bargains such as watches and jewellery! The main street is a shopping haven with luxury brands from Bvlgari to Gucci and my favourite, Tiffany. There are plenty of other shops to browse if these price tags are a little high!
