Big or Small, New or Old, there is a cruise ship for everyone.
There are so many reasons, or excuses, people wont cruise, when they haven’t even tried it. The most common excuses for first time cruisers include: “cruising is for old people”, “I’ll get bored”, “I’ll get claustrophobic on a cruise” and “I’ll get seasick”. All of which couldn’t be further from the truth.
With over 10 leading cruise lines, offering over 130 ships, there is plenty to offer for every member of the family. Let the kids have the fun in the water parks with the characters off of their favorite film whilst the teenagers can hang out by the pool or in their favorite spot to ‘chill’. Adults, well you can pretty much do whatever you like, when you like! Dance, Drink, Eat, Relax, Sleep, Explore literally whenever you like!
Grandparents, why not relax in the adult only parts on the ships, soak in the sun before hitting the bingo? the ball room dancing? or catch a show? The possibilities are endless on a cruise ship, for everyone!
For the Family: Of course, my ultimate favourite, Royal Caribbean Cruises will offer everything you need for the ultimate family Holiday. My tip would be to pick one of the newer ships like the Freedom Class and above, so that the whole family can experience what Royal Caribbean have to offer. You will also find characters from the DreamWorks productions, such as Shrek & Princess Fiona. The penguins of Madagascar will also make an appearance on your sailing!
Not far behind Royal Caribbean (in my opinion) would be Norwegian Cruise Line – with their freestyle cruising, you are never set to any times, which makes meal times much easier with the kids!
For the Adults: Go for Azamara Club Cruises. This is pretty much all inclusive with gratuities, shore excursions and DRINKS included! One price, and its unlimited fun! They don’t really have much to offer children on board their two ships, so you will find mostly adults on board. One of the selling points of Azamara is their Azamazing evenings. They offer one Azamazing evening on each sailing where they will take all passengers to somewhere in port for the evening. This local visit will ensure you experience the most the port has to offer. Another cruise line more for the adults would be Oceania Cruise Lines.
For the Fun loving younger passengers: Go for Carnival Cruise Lines. American owned and Proud of it, a day will never be dull when on board a Carnival Cruise Line ship. They have the smaller, older ships to offer short Bahamas/Caribbean sailings, cheap too!!! and they also have the bigger ships to offer everything, like royal Caribbean. A day at sea with Carnival is a ‘fun day at sea’. Drinking and partying is a definite when on board a carnival cruise.
Disney Cruise Lines: of course – for the kids! but also the adults. They do have adult only areas on board the ship, but be warned, the Disney experience is 24/7 when on board a Disney Cruise. Even the horn plays a Disney tune.
Some people believe once you are on a cruise, that’s it, you’re on and you are stuck in a shoebox of a room – this is so wrong! whether you choose a small interior cabin or a big suite, its up to you what you do when your on board, and when you do it. I generally don’t spend any time in my cabin except for sleeping, washing and changing. I find booking myself a smaller, less expensive cabin, makes me go out on the cruise to experience the ship. When I have booked a suite, I have felt like I have had to stay in there more, to get my monies worth.
Seasickness? Visit the doctor on board for complimentary motion sickness tablets, or why no have them before you sail? MY TIP: take a cabin in the middle of the ship, lower down. I have been high, forward, mid-ship and AFT and I have found to be lower and mid ship the best option. Cruise Ships are built to sail the seven seas, in all types of weather.
Having cruised over ten times myself, feel free to call me if you have any first time cruiser worries!
